the princeton homepage offers precious little in the way of pictures of the campus. here, however, are a few sites featuring professional photographs of the campus. FYI: princeton was the first college or university to use the latin word "campus" (field) to describe its grounds. harvard, of course, had used "yard" previously.

These are gorgeous. Thanks for the post. For people who are really sensitive to a beautiful environment, Princeton has something unique amongst the top schools. I confess, when I was choosing back in the day, it was the campus that really convinced me.

phil -- I know what you mean. I didn't want to say any of them were haunting (really! i'm a cheery person! .....slouches) but some of them truly are. Look at the faces of all the students watching the TV... inn' that something.

just in case anyone missed them, there are links to individual galleries (nassau hall, winter scenes, main campus, etc.) on the left side of the gambee page linked above. gambee published a book with his princeton photographs that's still available at the U-store, although not on amazon (it's probably out of print). you might find a copy at your public library system.

I thought we were on the same boat!! I thought we had an alliance or something...you know, against thouse Mathey/Rockey people :p
Come on...let me party in your huge common room because all I have is a single with no friends :(

It was kind of sad...
The firm Legend works in (my old firm) has an intern who is a Pton 09er, but she's so mean and pretentious. She called Brown/Yale/Penn etc. awful schools and said that they were her safeties..and then she railed on Butler (she's in Mathey).

I've always been one to dispel the "Princeton people are pretentious" stereotype so it upset me that there are people like that...I mean, obviously, I'm going to continue dispelling those stereotypes, and of course there are pretentious or awful people everywhere, but I guess it burst my Princeton = paradise bubble a little bit.

Bah. People like that, unpleasant as they are, exist everywhere. Once you learn to ignore them, the whole "paradise" thing comes back ;) Besides, I'm sorry, but anyone who calls Brown or Yale or Penn a safety school doesn't sound all that much like Princeton material to me...

If you are really motivated and can handle a big download, go to Google Earth at http://earth.google.com . After downloading the program you can "fly" anywhere in the world to see satellite imagery. The resolution on the East Coast is pretty good. The view of Princeton is striking, although the image is going on three years old. For example, you will see the old tennis courts below Dillon instead of the construction under way there now on the new residential college.

For those of you who have never visited the campus, this is an excellent way to view the campus and its environs and to comparison shop other Ivy League campi.
