Ping pong#2!, final one, please chance!!!!!

What do you mean crazy? :?

everything seems solid. u have a much higher chance than the average person. obviously some schools are a reach for everyone, but u stand a good chance

Everything is enough except for the SAT/ACT. You need to get that to 2300+ superscore or 35/36 single sitting to get into MIT, Columbia, Cornell, Berkeley, and Upenn. Other colleges are fine.
Being Indian, which counts under Asian(I know…it sucks), should be thought of as a -100 to -200 on the SAT.(I’m being as real as possible here). So that’s why I told you those scores.

But really, everything is great other than that glaring test score.

You lack individual accomplishments, a solid GPA, and a great test-score. This throws your team stuff out the window (makes it look like you were free riding). The stuff you could use to turn into individual achievement, you haven’t gotten anything out of those yet.

Outside of academics, the resume shows almost no passion or consistency with table tennis being the lone exception.

Do you see where I’m going with this? Look into what kind of students each schools want. Assuming recruiting doesn’t come into factor, you won’t be the type Ivy Leagues typically want. You seem more like MIT or Caltech type without the scores and GPA.

Thanks to all who replied.
@gold- thanks
@hot - yeah i know i need to get those test scores up, the indian asian thing makes sense. thanks for the chance
@geek- thanks for the chance. I will admit I have a crappy GPA and a crappy test score. However, I dont really think I *lack * individual accomplishments, I mean, I will not take all the credit for something I did not do by myself. Furthermore, I feel like you can’t just take out “academics” because it is showing my interest in the fields of math and science outside and inside of class. I have a strong passion for both science and math. I am not sure about recruitment, but I will assume for the moment that I do not get recruited. Along with table tennis, I have been playing chess for 8 years and constantly go to numerous tournaments and I do have many individual trophies for table tennis and chess that are all district, local, state and some national. I am not trying to argue with you (since you know better than me, seeing as how you are at Upenn this year), I am simply puzzled with what you said. Do you have any suggestions as far as the EC’s go? But thanks for the honest advice! Really helps me out

Any more comments?

bump :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :O

Harsh reality is that college admissions people don’t give a crap about what you think. Sorry, it’s sad but true. What’s important is how you display yourself in writing, not what feel.

Read your resume. Team this, team that, team this, team that. If an area of your resume is filled with stuff like that, it’s better than nothing, but try to get at least one individual stuff in. AIME? Intel? Stuff like that. Your resume almost suggests free riding because you lack individual academic success in the same area as the team stuff. Better safe than sorry.

ECs are extremely focused on science and math with exception of table tennis. Again, that’s why I think you might have a better shot at MIT than Columbia. Good luck.

ok thanks geek. i get what you are saying. ill consider MIT as well, but I really want to pursue research/science field at Columbia. Anyone else?

bumpppppppppppp

Wow, you are a lot better at table tennis than me lol. And i’m writing about table tennis too in my essay! Your early to columbia seems very good chance. You could probably send just the ACT score, not the SAT score. Chance me!

The table tennis is pretty impressive, I would stress that on your app. Test scores could be a bit better. I understand what geek said above about the team vs. individual academic achievements for science; maybe you could expound upon the teams and your role in them in an essay or something?

Anyway, good shot at all of the schools I think, with MIT still being a high reach, Columbia and UChicago being mid reach (especially with Chicago’s quirkiness - who knows what their verdict will be).
