Hey everyone. I've applied to several schools and I've narrowed it down to 2, but I'm very confused on which to go to.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
and
Adelphi University - Tufts University 7 year dental program

RPI is an engineering school, and I'd go there for engineering, while the Tufts program is a nice easy way of becoming a dentist.

In terms of financial aid and money, I've received the RPI Medal (15k a year) and a full ride at Adelphi (I don't think Tufts gives merit scholarships). The programs in total will both cost an equivalent amount of money.

I don't know which is better to become.. a dentist or an engineer. Both fields interest me and I've grown to like the prospect of both. I really don't know what to do, so I turn to you guys for help.

What would you do if you were in my position and why?

"What would you do if you were in my position and why?"

This is about which career to pick, rather than which school. I don't think you should let others decide that for you.

However, if you are truly torn between dentistry and engineering, I suggest choosing RPI. You can get an engineering degree still go to dental school later or you could stick with engineering. If you choose Tufts now, you're stuck with dentistry.

Weel i woul dchoose dentistry, if you dont like it you can always major in engineering in tufts itself ( i heared its really easy to move). In RPI, you cant really shift to dentistry can you? ( I am not sure)

Have you already been accepted into the Adelphi/Tufts program? Or do you have to apply for it after you complete some coursework?

In either case, I'd personally pick RPI. They are expanding their science departments, especially biology, and you'd be able to get into dental school without a problem from RPI. You also have other options there such as biotech research that may lead you into a career path you aren't anticipating.

Academics and national name recognition are superior at RPI over Adelphi. Adelphi also leaves something to be desired in terms of the campus culture. RPI is just a more solid choice overall, but of course, that's just my opinion. You yourself will have to weigh the pro's and con's of each school and decide for yourself where you will feel most challenged and happy. Best of luck!

In response to your post, archdelux, I like math and science. I narrowed down my search of career paths to those two fields. I like taking care of my teeth and I think it might be nice to be a dentist. But I also like the application of math and science to improve technology and that's why engineering appeals to me.

I probably will be attending RPI because I'm not 100% sure of what I want to do and it does seem to offer the most flexibility.

Also, I realize Adelphi is not as good as RPI. The reason I liked the Adelphi program was because it guaranteed me of getting into a dental school (Tufts Dental) and finishing in 7 years, opposed to the standard 8.
