Pires for LS 1

Pires gets a ton of mixed reviews on Bruinwalk. I was wondering if anyone here has had her for LS 1 or any other LS course and could provide their opinion, advice, etc. regarding her class. I plan to take it along with Chem 14C with Hardinger and English Comp 3 with Chichester-Bonca. Thanks!

What’s LS?

Life Sciences 1: Evolution, Ecology, & Biodiversity

bump. is this class seriously that hard? that stats say that 16% get A’s…which is decent in my opinion. i seriously think the ratings might be skewed.

^if thats the case, then its not any harder than other LS’s.
LS2,3, and 4 all are ~15% A’s (including A-'s)

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. but if you read the “comments,” they seem to depict the teacher and the difficulty of the course in such a horrible light. I’m wondering how accurate these comments actually are. This might be a stretch, but when reading through the comments, it seems like it’s one person commenting negatively over and over again. So if anyone here has any experience with this teacher, let us know?

To be honest, all LS teachers are going to have pretty similar ratings. The LS core only allows teachers to give a certain % of A’s B’s, and etc. Since these classes are so competitive there isn’t much the teacher can do in terms of the difficulty. And people who do worse will often criticize the teacher’s methods just because of how hard the class was to no fault of the ls teacher.

^I agree. I’ve had one great LS professor, one okay LS professor, and one horrible (in my opinion) LS professor. and all 3 classes were equally difficult to get an A in.

i wouldnt let reviews on bruinwalk dissuade you from taking a certain LS class with a certain professor. the choice of professor has almost nothing to do with your grade

She can’t be worse than Halpin

Haha, funny, cause I heard Halpin was easier. . . mixed reactions from so many people.
