Is there a GroupMe chat for accepted students? I’d be interested in participating in/starting one!
That link also did not work. I tried it with Chrome, Firefox, & Edge. Am I the only one having this problem?
@ibox505 its on fb, but CC blocks out the full word. just manually type out the link and it should work–thats what I did
@ibox505, If you manually type facebook.com /groups/ PittClassof2021 (I put spaces there so it won’t get blocked out), it should work! I just tried it in a few browsers and it worked for me. You can also try searching for “Pitt Class of 2021” under groups in Facebook.
Hope that helps!

@hailtopitt1787 Does the FAFSA need to be submitted first to get a merit scholarship?
My application was sent in September 4, and all test scores would’ve gotten there 2-3rd week of sept at the latest… I still haven’t heard anything but a bunch of people who applied after me are hearing back. Should I be as worried as I am?
@class0f2017 you dont need to submit Fafsa for merit awards
@class0f2017, Nope! The FAFSA is for need-based financial aid. Pitt merit scholarships do not require a FAFSA.
@c011e9e, If you would like to check on the status of your application, you are welcome to contact us and we can look up your account: 412-624-7488 or oafa@pitt.edu.

My son applied a little over a week ago to the Swanson school of engineering and got his rejection letter today. He has a mediocre GPA but I’m not sure exactly what because his school doesn’t give grade point averages. I’m guessing around a 3.3 . He has a 36 ACT, he’s an AP scholar, a NMSF and has an engineering internship. His math/science grades are good.( Calc BC, advanced physics, advanced chem, advanced stats- strongest curriculum his school offers) but I guess his GPA killed him. I do believe everything works out the way it’s supposed to- we’ll see. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear- earlier isn’t always better!

@oliver17 he might be able to transfer into engineering later.
He might also be interested in the new school of computing and information.
@mommdc The poster’s kid was rejected outright, I believe.
Yes, rejected from Swanson, the engineering school. Since the test score is great, it must have been the GPA.
@oliver17, I don’t know how that works, if there is a way to appeal or ask to apply to Dietrich (Arts and Sciences) instead. Did the letter say anything?
I’m sorry, I should have been more specific. He was “not offered a place” in engineering but would be reevaluated for Dietrich. He could possibly transfer in later but he wants to go to a school with direct admit to engineering. I feel bad for him, he is very deflated.
Does he gave mitigating circumstances for his GPA? Are his grades good this semester?
Does not doing homework count as mitigating circumstances? Lol. He did well third trimester last year and has all A’s this year except a B in English. He was just immature and didn’t see the point of doing homework if he knew the material. His motivation drastically increased once he got his internship.
@oliver17 .how doe he feel about NMF schools? Is he applying there also? Sorry for the denied. It sounds like he has come a long ways with the GPA and putting in the time to do the work.
