****PITT CLASS OF 2021 DECISIONS THREAD****

FYI - received my GAP invitation today. Portal still says “Complete”, no letter in the mail yet. Assuming letter will come next week based on other posts which state that the scholarship committee meets on Fridays.

@CA1543 Congratulations on your son’s scholarship! Wonderful news.

Just received the VR goggles about 2-3 weeks after being admitted! Super cool, novel piece of mail! Does anyone know if this is a Pitt exclusive thing or are there other colleges hopping on board?

The VR goggles are awesome. I wonder how many are being sent out.

Anxiously waiting for an admission decision…admittedly, I’ve been stalking this thread to compare my waiting time.

Called Pitt today to check on application(Finished application Nov10, but only marked complete 3-4 days ago)…the lady told me I was currently in committee RIGHT THEN and that I was getting reviewed and would know in ANOTHER 2-3 weeks.

The wait is killing me lol (nothing compared to how I RD’d Fordham and they only release in APRIL though)

OOS (NJ), Asian female (also bagpiper lol)
applying to dietrich (pre law)
SAT: 2280 (800 CR, 680 M, 800 W)…(1480 CR+M)…“new” SAT conversion: 1510 (CR+M)
GPA: 3.56 UW, 3.97 W
lots of Hns classes + AP:
2 APs (Junior yr): AP Lang (5), AP USH (4)
4 APs this year: Computer programming, Euro, Lit, Comp. Gov & Politics
Subject Tests( Sent 1 in even though it’s not required): Literature (800)

Hoping that I’ll get in, at first I was quite confident PITT was a “safety” but my mind is freaking out a little for the first admission decisions…
If I get accepted, the VR goggles would be SO cool. Is EVERYONE getting them??
CONGRATS to everyone accepted on this thread!!!

@PAwind98 - my D’s little sister found a VR tour of UKentucky. Older D scolded her and took the Pitt VR tool away and told her not to abuse the Pitt name. Ha!

And to stay in the spirit of the thread, D accepted. ACT - 35, OOS, 4.0 UW, IB program, with nice merit award. Likely will be a Panther next year.

@asianpiper I would certainly be surprised if you were not admitted! Your only “weak” point is GPA, which really isn’t “that” weak for Dietrich… I’d still consider Pitt a safety for you. As for VR Goggles, I’m not sure on quantity nor distribution patterns. I have only seen a few people mention them on this forum, and no one from my high school who has been accepted has received them, to the best of my knowledge. Maybe they are sending them out to “Honors Course Qualified” students? It would be an unreasonable cost for them to send to every single applicant, maybe it’s an extra incentive to get the attention of the “more” desirable students? I’m genuinely curious, hopefully more information about them is released soon! Good luck on your wait!

DD got the VR goggles this week and could barely put them down the first night. She had gone to Pitt for a leadership conference over the summer and was excited to show us the buildings she had been inside during that week. It’s an amazing way to see Pitt and the fact that you can turn fully in a circle as well as look up and down is amazing. It’s so lifelike the experience at the top of the Incline actually caused some vertigo. She found that some other schools do have a VR tour, but of the few that she found, none were as impressive as the Pitt production. She also found that there are other VR things you can find online that also work. I know she looked at a tour of NYC, and she stood in the middle of the stage in the Hamilton play.

Great gift, Pitt! Very cool. And what a great way for students who may not have seen campus to get a look around, not to mention reinforcing the decision for those who already love the campus.

The writing on the delivery box suggests it may have been sponsored by the Honors College, so I suppose it may be limited to students who automatically qualified and got an honors letter?

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted and good luck to those still waiting!

Accepted to Dietrich for Pre Information Sciences :
3.71 W 3.3 UW
1390/1600 SAT
7 AP’s 9 Honors Classes
Top 5 public high school in Virginia

Now I just have to wait for Penn State. Good to have Pitt as a backup though. Kind of disappointed the thing I got in the mail for Pitt was just an acceptance letter. The one I got from Temple had a bunch of stuff in it

I’m pretty sure you will get more mail with information from Pitt.

I was accepted a few weeks ago and just received the VR goggles in the mail! I qualified for the honors college (I have a 32 ACT and a 4.6 W GPA). I’m really hoping it’s a sign that I’m a wanted candidate and that I’ll get some merit scholarship.

when will I receive information about merit aid? I got my acceptance November 30th

@hasannadeem47 nice to have pitt as a backup? while waiting on psu? ouch. you do realize you’re on a pitt forum right?

@amandakayak Lol yeah I probably shouldn’t have said that

holycannoli - DS has similar stats (32 ACT) and when I called admissions I was told minimum ACT for merit aid was a 33? Hopefully this isn’t true, thinking positive thoughts for us both but wanted to pass on that info!

@bulldog25 per https://oafa.pitt.edu/financialaid/academic-scholarships/

Med SciBud - thank you. that’s what admissions told me as well.

@hailtopitt1787

First, I want to say a huge thank you for your presence on this forum. I’ve read many posts and appreciate your comments. You have helped many nervous families through this process.

Hoping you can help clarify something. My son was accepted back in September, but his my.pitt account still just shows “completed”. I thought I remembered you suggesting to others that they contact the admissions office about this, and, if I am reading your comment #676 above correctly, it seems that this should change at some point. When speaking with the admissions office, they suggested speaking with the technology help desk. The Help Desk suggested contacting admissions. No one seemed to know anything about this change in status, or what is supposed to happen, or what information an accepted student would have access to beyond the minimal information in the profile that says the application is complete.

So, does it change? If so, at what point? Only after a student commits, or should it change to "accepted? And if it does change, is that the only word that changes, or is there additional information available to the accepted student? If so, how would my son go about having this change made, since neither the admissions staff nor the help desk seemed to know anything about this.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

@yunakk21 Scholarship notification goes out to those selected for merit aid between early November and March 1.

@Mom20132017, let me look into this for you further. I will talk to some of my colleagues on Monday and respond here as soon as I have more information!

Best,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer
