@MominPA2017 thank you!
For info and comparisons purposes, my daughter (stats in earlier post) was accepted on the day after Thanksgiving and just received merit money letter today - 10k per year OOS.
?
Just got my letter of merit aid!
10,000 per year
Stats:
31 ACT (31 superscored)
3.8 W gpa
3.5 UW gpa
IB candidate
lotsss of EC’s
I think the biggest part in me getting merit scholarships since my stats are lower than most of the other people who have gotten them is because of my relationship with the admissions director. I went down to the personalized visit and spent a day with her, we formed a good connection, she gave me her personal mobile number, and I have been emailing here frequently since the visit. She said she would try to help me out with the getting me as much aid as possible. I would definitely recommend forming a relationship with people on the admissions team, it can help a lot!
Got merit offer yesterday! November 1 application and accepted 2 weeks ago.
@mollytd My S received 5K merit award with 33 ACT.
Is there a cutoff for merit aid? Ex: If your gpa or test scores are less than a certain amount.
Hi everyone. Im a senior who just applied to UPitt around mid October. I have recieved my acceptance to Swanson engineering but have not heard back from Honors or received merit.
I am OOS, and reading this thread makes me nervous because unfortunately, without merit, I will not be able to afford UPitt.
Will someone tell me my chances?
33 ACT
4.8 GPA
Top 2% of class
Strong SAQs
All honors and AP classes, good leadership, founder of club, played sports, etc.
Good luck to everyone, I hope to hear soon so I can make a choice between UPitt, Case Western (22,500 scholarship) and OSU, which offered me the maximus scholarship
@Nasagirl Since you are instate for OSU (per your other thread), it will most likely be far less expensive than either Pitt or Case Western. You would need at least a $20,000 scholarship from Pitt to get close to OSU costs. Case Western would be twice as expensive as OSU even with the scholarship.
@kidzncatz Hi, thanks for your reply. Do you think a 20k scholarship from UPitt is unlikely with my stats? I was hoping for at least 15k.
@Nasagirl the 33 ACTs from last year seemed to get $5-10K. Lots has changed this year so it’s hard to know. Don’t give up but read through these threads so far. We will be rooting for you!
Thank you. @carachel2 ! I appreciate that!
@collegechick000 congratulations on your scholarship!! Thanks for sharing your stats. Are you in-state or OOS?
Nevermind - I just saw that you are OOS
Hey guys. Just thought I’d throw my data out there for everyone.
I have a 35 act/1530sat and got 15k.
@Nasagirl hi! I am an OOS, I applied at the end of September/beginning of October, and I have been accepted to Swanson! I have a 4.6 gpa, 1550 SATs, many APs, top 3% of my class, sports, clubs, leadership, etc. I received $20,000/year in merit, so I think you have a strong chance of getting good merit money. Good luck in your college decisions!
Well, this should be the week, Honors hopefuls! Good luck everybody!!
I had heard Pitt offers good merit scholarships, but I found a place on their site that indicated a minimum of 1480 on the SAT and top 5% of class. I guess that means a candidate with SAT 1330 and GPA 4.2 (3.6 unweighted) isn’t likely to receive even a few thousand? She’s gotten good $ from other schools, but has a strong interest in Pitt.
@MDstudent2019 Congratulations on your acceptance and scholarship and thank you for your encouraging words! Still waiting for my merit letter and honors decision. I’ll post when I’ve been updated.
@MdgmMom Pitt does give decent merit scholarships. But the general range/threshold for merit is high. On their website they state that the usual merit scholarship recipient has an SAT of 1480 or higher and an UNweighted GPA of 3.8 or higher. Based on your daughter’s stats and previous years, it looks doubtful that your daughter will get any merit from Pitt.
“Good merit scholarships” means different things at different schools for sure.
Does anyone know how honors notification is sent? Email? Letter? Both? Thanks!
@doge123 @hailtopitt1787 posted on the decisions thread that the honors notifications will be sent out via regular mail on or before Jan 12
