You are probably very busy right now. However, I have a quick question about the application process.
I applied on September 22 and haven’t received an email or letter of acceptance. So, I had just assumed that the decision wasn’t made yet.
Then I checked the Pitt portal and I saw that there was now a section where I could accept to decline in the admissions tab. Does this mean I am accepted even though I haven’t received an email?
@“Pau_pack@2021” I don’t know but assume that is more like March after all applications have been reviewed. From what I read last year, they give very little merit aid, almost exclusively needs based. One guy got into MIT and was not offered any money from Pitt.
@“Pau_pack@2021” if I remember correctly from last year, kids started receiving notice of merit scholarships in late Nov/Dec. Financial aid packages are released in March.
@Pau-pack@2021 I hope life is different for this year’s applicants but last year my high stats daughter was accepted to Pitt within 10 days of applying in October and we waited all the way until March and she received no merit. All but one other school (big name school who doesn’t usually give scholarships) gave her merit. She loved Pitt and after waiting patiently from October to March only to receive nothing was heartbreaking. Needless to say, she opted not to pay OOS tuition to attend Pitt and is happily attending another school that gave her a great merit award. Please tell your kids to keep an open mind through the process. From diligently reading last year’s thread, most applicants received their merit awards within a couple of weeks after acceptance even though they tell you awards keep going out until March. I think a few were surprised by receiving a award in January and then really nothing after that.
My high stats daughter applied in late August, got her admit early September, and just got merit aid letter October 27 (10k a year, renewable for 4 years). Financial aid office told her aid letters will come out Feb/March.
@namelessnancy SAT 1420 (700 M, 720 V), 4.0 UW GPA, 4.65 W GPA, 5 APs so far (all 5s and one 4) and 4 APs this year. Good luck! I don’t think she will apply to honors, we don’t really see the benefit since the housing is further from campus, it’s not tied to merit, and anyone can take an honors class if they want.
For those receiving merit do you receive with the acceptance letter you receive in the mail or separate? My son received the acceptance but no mention of merit in the letter.
