My daughter got into the dental gap program as well. Just curious about majors that would make sense for gap med or dental. Right now our D has been accepted into engineering, but we are concerned about the 3.7/3.5 gpa requirements. We are thinking health information management makes more sense now. Any help would be great?
My D also got into the Pitt Gap dental. Has any of the previous posters committed to Pitt yet? What are your concerns about the required Gpa and what are your undergrad majors? My d got in for biomedical engineering but after looking at the course load the required Gpa seems impossible.
Well yes, engineering majors might have difficulty to get that high of a GPA. I also don’t know if the engineering curriculum would have room for all of the dental prerequisites.
Can your son/daughter reach out to an Arts and Sciences advisor about the pre-dental path?
I would think as long as they satisfy the dental prerequisites, the particular major shouldn’t be that important.
The average GPA for Pitt freshman engineering students after 1st semester is 2.98 GPA. These were the stats for the entering freshman class of 2016 that were quoted to us at PittStart last summer July 2017. From what I’ve seen and heard from my daughter’s experience and her classmates it does seem to play out this year also.
Advisors have all Freshman engineering students taking 17 hrs:
Physics 1 (4 hrs)
Chem 1 (3 hrs)
Calc 1 (4 hrs)
Elective (3 hrs)
Engineering Analysis (3 hours)
Freshman seminar (two hours required per week, no credit given and no grade given)
17 hrs
A pre-dental student would also have to fit in biology with lab, and a chem lab, and organic chemistry.
Here is the bioengineering curriculum

My D just committed to Pitt with the guaranteed dental program. Who else just committed with the program?
