Pitt Mechanical Engineering Chances

Okay so I applied to PSU early on and got in and just figured I'd go there because its a good school and I have some friends up there. I applied to Pitt, but I never paid the fee, cause I figured I probably wasn't going and didn't want to spend the money. But last week I visited Pitt and toured the engineering facilities and fell in love with pretty much everything about Pitt. So I sent in my app fee today and now my app should be complete. I'm just worried because I know it's rolling admission but I mean, chances go down after a while. my only hope is that I am a really really good student.

GPA: 4.3+
almost all of my classes are honors or AP.
I've taken tons of college credit classes
SAT: cr and m: 1170 kinda low but not the worst
ACT: 27
heavily involved in extracurriculars: sports (hockey, soccer, baseball), National Honors Society (Treasurer) French National Honors Society (Treasurer), Math League, Quiz Team, Music, Art Club
I feel like if I would have applied at the beginning of the year they would have accepted me right away because I've worked hard and have a good resumé, but at this point in the year I'm not so sure. can anyone weigh in on this?

Your grades look fine but test scores seem low for Engineering school. Did you apply to Swanson for Engineering or Arts and Sciences? I’ll bet you can get into A&S and if your grades at Pitt are decent, it’s pretty easy to transfer into Engineering afterwards.

What was the math portion of your SAT/ACT? Was it significantly higher than the English? What kind of math and science classes have you taken in high school? Have you done well in them?

These could balance out a low test score, but the fact that you’re applying later in the cycle doesn’t really help. At worse, you could do as @nascarnewyork suggested and come in as an A&S student (but take almost the full freshman engineering curriculum) and then transfer in after a year.

My math was only a 600 on the SAT.
I’ve taken Chemestry I and II and got college credit for Chem II, I’ve had Algebra 1 and 2, and College Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre Calc, Calc, Physics. almost all of those classes i got college credit for.

That’s a bit low. In the 2012-2013 application year (so last year), the average Math SAT for a SSOE Accepted student was 701. The average CR was 665. (so average CR+M was 1366).

The only classes that will count towards an engineering degree would be any Calc or calc-based physics you have taken. And even then, you need to check and see if Pitt accepts transfer credits from whatever college you took those classes at (it doesn’t accept transfers from many places).

I visited Pitt about a week ago with my transcripts from colleges where I’ve gotten credits and they showed me which would apply to my major. I know they said the chem classes would get me out of taking a chemistry freshman year, and the Calc and Physics could get me out of Calc and Physics, should I opt to do so. At this moment, I’m not too concerned which college credits will transfer as much as i am getting into the school itself.

I don’t know if this means anything now, but a friend of mine with similar grades and a lower SAT score was accepted to Swanson, however that was back in October/November.
