My son got into U Pitt. Waiting to hear about merit aid. We can track here who gets what with what stats. Wishing every one good luck for admissions and merit aid. Hope to hear soon here
I saw people tracking it here
I think that thread is tracking application and admissions status, not merit awards.
Yes other thread is pretty big and for admissions. I just thought this will be good place to post how much scholarship kids got and what are there stats. So merit info in one place for every one.
Is there any potential financial advantage or disadvantage to committing to Pitt sooner rather than later? With rolling admissions decisions there is typically a significant lag time between acceptance and awarding of merit aid (if any). Since merit is often used as a tool to entice students to attend a college I am wondering if accepting the admissions offer early eliminates the need to provide any kind of merit aid incentive. Or is Pitt merit independent of that whole game?
We finally found the document center and my son had an $80k ($20k/year) university scholarship waiting for him. The letter was dated 10/11. He’s OOS with 1520 SAT, 3.7UW GPA with 12 APs, strong ECs with a couple state level recognitions for choir and debate, NM Commended. Applied to engineering. Thankful that the scholarship makes attending Pitt slightly more than our in state university! S23 wants to spread his wings.
Congratulations. That’s great.
Congrats to your son!!
I believe that is the max amount Pitt gives (and usually just to OOS), with the exception of the competitive scholarships that are separate applications.
For merit aid - did you do extra essays or already did fafsa or contacted there financial aid office or nothing?
No extra work or FAFSA is needed. There’s an extra honors college question if you check that box on the Common App, but the merit awards being sent out now have nothing to do with Honors College, afaik.
May I ask when your DC applied? Wondering if the decisions are being rolled out date of submission.
He applied 9/5, was accepted 9/21. His merit award letter was dated 10/11.
My son got merit aid letter today. $5000/year. OOS
1480 SAT. 7 APs. 4 GPA. Good extra curricular nothing state level though.
Admitted on 10/5. Merit Aid on 10/18
Congrats!
Congrats! my son got the same $5000/year. OOS.
Congratulations. It will be great if you could put his stats. Will help future parents/kids
Question to all - if familiar - any chance of asking more merit aid from U Pitt?
Does anyone know if SAT is a stronger factor for merit aid? D will have 10 APs by graduation, All 5s on the 5 APs she’d completed by her junior year, 3IBs, 4.0 unweighted, strong extracurriculars with national recognition. I can only assume her 1420 SAT is keeping her out of the running : /
1500 sat, 16 ap and 3.95 gpa - not very good essay and no national levels ec.
DS17, OOS got 20k/yr- accepted 9/29, merit award 10/18. 1510 SAT, 11 AP’s, 4/4.8 unweighted/weighted GPA, strong extracurriculars (including national ~D2/D3 level swimmer)- without national level awards though.
