I’ll weigh in… I’m an OSU alum living close to Pittsburgh, my wife is a Pitt alum and most of her family is either PSU or Pitt alum. I have a daughter that is a HS senior and we just finished touring both colleges (and others) during the last 4-6 weeks.

Which school is best is dependent on what you are going to major in and whether you prefer an urban or rural campus. Both schools have big time sports programs and I’m sure both have their share of partiers.

For my daughter, she liked Pitt better than PSU because Pitt (in her and her mothers opinion) had the better nursing program.

Let me make one other point. There is something about PSU that makes its grads UNBELIEVABLY loyal for the rest of their lives. It is a very strange phenomenon, but one that MANY people seem to acknowledge. Maybe something “strange” happens to these students while they’re tucked away in happy valley, but perspective students should be aware that they may feel the need to put paw prints on the back of their mini-vans and take pilgrimages “home” for the rest of their lives.

I am personally delighted that I won’t have to pay for an intervention for my daughter.
