pitt questions

I just found out last week that I was accepted to Pitt, and though I have not yet visited the school I was quite excited. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Pitt and I was just wondering if any current Pitt students could answer some questions for me:

What major do you go into if you are pre-physical therapy? Biology? I heard there’s also a health science major, but you must be accepted into it? In general, I’d just like to know what kind of track a pre-physical therapy student follows.

Any information you can give me about the music department would be great. I want to double major in music, and it seems like it would be relatively easy to do at Pitt (I saw nothing about audtions on the site). What are the ensembles like? Is the faculty good to work with? Anybody know anything about the clarinet people?

What is the social scene like? What are Pitt people like? Is it diverse? What do Pitt students like to do for fun?

Food and housing–good or bad?

Any big pros or cons of Pitt that you have would be great.

If someone actually answers all this, thank you so much! Pitt seems like a great school and I’m strongly considering it.

The social scene at Pitt is good. It’s a big school, so if you can’t find something to do, it’s your own fault for not looking. Student organizations are CONSTANTLY putting on different events. Also

Pitt students are generaly friendly and normal. Once again, it’s a big school, so you’ll find a little of everyone. But there’s alot of school pride here and I’ve made a lot of friends. Some people don’t think Pitt is diverse, but it doesn’t feel that way. I’m a black female in engineering, so if anyone should know what it’s like to be a minority, it’s me! Despite this fact, I feel like Pitt is very diverse- not just by race, but in types of people as well. You do tend to find alot of people from rural & suburban PA, but there are alot of people who are OOS.

Pitt students do everything for fun- some party, some visit museums, some work out, some go clubbing, some go to the mall, some wander the city and find something new (like I always do), some stay in their dorm and chil… the list goes on and on. I personally like to go see plays and do Friday Night Improv.

The food here is pretty decent. it’s 100x better than my HS cafeteria food, so I’m not complaining. It can be a little monotonous after a while, so every now and then I like to eat out at the different places around town. There are great burger joints, indian food, LuLu’s Noodles, and other places I still haven’t visited yet.

The dorms are nice too. I live in Towers aka the “worst” dorms on campus. But just because it is the worst dorm, it doesn’t mean they are bad dorms. It’s a pretty nice room- I feel like I have enough space. The showers can be questionable, but they are cleaned everyday, so they aren’t terrible. but hey- what do you expect from a communal bathroom?

All of the other dorms are pretty sweet. The only one I hear sucks is Lothrop because it’s FAR away from all the other dorms. I would not reccomend dorming there.

There are a zillion pros about Pitt, but I would say my favorite thing about the school is the tons of stuff to do. I’m never bored.

The cons about Pitt… I hate the elevator in Tower A. It takes forever sometimes (unless you live on floor 3,6,9, 12, 15, or 18). Most people would say they hate the winter weather, but I actually love the snow :)

Thanks so much for your answers! =]
