Pitt Special Status FAQs

I received special status for Pitt in May. I was wondering how they choose the candidates they select for it. I know that it's obviously based on GPA and SAT/ACT scores. However, I had a couple of random questions about the special status that I never really found the answers to. Since many people seemed to wonder about these same questions, I figured I would start a thread to see if we could find any answers.

Do they have a specific test score and GPA requirement that was necessary to receive the special status?

Is this something that's given to a wide range of applicants or is it difficult to receive?

How much will it help in the admissions review? Do most special status applicants get accepted if they take advantage of the offer and apply early?

Assuming that special status applicants applied before August (Like somewhere within June or July), will they receive an admission decision in August?

Is everyone that receives special status considered to have a relatively good chance at being admitted to Pitt?

We visited Pitt last September and my D received a special status app in May as well. I just assumed that she received the application because we visited and provided her email info. I do not recall her giving them her GPA. I suppose they could have sent it based on test scores- who knows. We were told that the special status apps will be looked at in late August in the order in which they arrive, and they will be reviewed before the regular apps. The special status apps do not provide as much info as the regular app which I see as a huge disadvantage. Students can send in additional info if they want to.

I do not know if students who receive the special status app have a greater chance of acceptance.

Yeah, I’m confused about when admission decisions will be sent out. Pitt sent an email awhile ago saying that they will begin reviewing applications in early August. Someone referred me to the thread below where some special status applicants received decisions as early as August 15th and 20th. It might be possible that they start sending out acceptances earlier.
