D got an email today saying she can apply for the Pitt Stamps scholarship, deadline 3 weeks from getting this email.
Exciting!
The application is basically an essay, a resume, and a recommendation letter.
Anyone have any tips/advise on what they are looking for?
And anyone know how many scholarships are being awarded?
Thanks!

@scholarme - Congrats! I just did a quick google search and looks like Pitt has 15 full rides given to instate students. Sweet deal. Good luck.

Thanks @FromMD ! I should’ve googled before asking. I just saw that they don’t pick finalists until March – long wait!

Longer the wait, bigger the prize!

Congrats scholarme!!

Thanks @twogirls ! D is excited but also stressed - another essay! LOL

I understand. Last night I asked her if she planned on applying to any more schools and she said “NO.” She has one more scholarship essay to finish and then she is DONE.

She got the honors brochure the other day along with the Pitt letter strongly encouraging her to participate in the honors college. Now we just wait for the money LOL.

Congrats again!!!

@Scholarme, if you haven’t checked it out yet, we have a whole page dedicated to information about the Stamps Scholarship on our Admissions and Financial Aid website.

Best of luck!

@hailtopitt1787 thanks!!! I was wondering - around how many students apply for the Stamps?

@twogirls, can’t wait until D is done with essays! Congrats to your D for being done!

@hailtoppitt1787 - can you comment on Chancellor’s scholarship? - how many are invited for interview and how many are selected? TIA

That’s quite an honor even to be invited @scholarme. Good luck to your D!

@scholarme, around 300 students apply for the Stamps scholarship at Pitt.
@FromMD, approximately 60 students are invited to interviews for the Chancellor’s Scholarship and between 12-15 members of the freshmen class are awarded Chancellor’s Scholarships.

Thanks!!!

When are Chancellor’s invitations given? And will the scholarship committee start meeting soon?

The scholarship committee begins to meet November 1. They meet on a weekly basis through March ( I think).

Yes, that is correct. The scholarship committee will start meeting Nov 1st. You can expect to hear back on scholarships no later than March 1st.

My son was accepted into honors and told his file will go to scholarship committee. 1) he use special app, will that hurt him? Should he send a resume to give more information about his ec’s and leadership? 2) Coming from a high level high school, where many apply to Pitt, will only a certain number of scholarships be offered to students of the same high school?

@hailtopitt1787 - My son is admitted to Honor’s college and also submitted application for Stamps scholarship. Will we get the news on merit scholarship first and then the Stamps scholarship?

Is Chancellor’s Scholarships is different from Stamps scholarship?

@funnymama If your son is eligible for the Stamps scholarship, he will be contacted with requests for any supplementary materials. So if the committee needs anything, they will let you know! They typically reach out to those who are eligible for Stamps several weeks after they have already been admitted.

These are the full eligibility requirements that the committee looks at:
Pennsylvania residency
US Citizen or Permanent Resident
Full-time enrollment at the Pittsburgh campus
Minimum 1400 SAT (math and critical reading) or 31 ACT (math and English sub scores average)
Top 5% class rank or 3.75/4.0 overall grade point average at a non-ranking high school
Demonstrated leadership, scholarship, service, perseverance and innovation

@Harrisburg, the Stamps and Chancellor’s scholarships are different, yes. The Stamps Scholarship is given in partnership with the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation. <a href=“Admissions | University of Pittsburgh - Home”>https://oafa.pitt.edu/learn-about-aid/academic-scholarships/stamps-leadership-scholarship/

The Stamps Scholarship may take a bit longer to hear back on, the full information on the process is listed on the link I posted above. Basically, students who have been admitted and are eligible for Stamps will be contacted several weeks after their admission. Then up to 20 semifinalists will be interviewed for the scholarship in March and the recipients will be notified by April.

@hailtopitt1787 - can a student invited to both (Chancellors and Stamps)?
