PITT vs NCSU vs SJSU vs UCI (undeclared)

My daughter got admission into CS at PITT ,NCSU and Rutgers. We are totally confused as to which one to choose. Daughter awards at PITTs which was not given an another place. ONly closest thing which is possible at this time is PITT, continue to see positive news about PITT, their new school and CMU classes she can take. SJSU/UCI more of undeclared major which we are not comfortable. We were from bay area , SJSU has some amount of internship opportunity which is not from top companies. I am hearing top companies goto MICH,UCD etc and not SJSU. So the questions are

  • is PITT better than NCSU (CS programmes)
  • Job opportunities/internship opportunity in PITT
  • Dietrich -> school of computing transfer. How easy or difficult it is going to be
  • can a student potentially complete it in 4 years time (UCs and some of california colleges due to unavailbility of courses or too much competition it takes someone to finish it in 4.5 to 5 years)
  • am i blind sided by anything else

We are currently in india, one thing bit of downer is PITT is cold place and how depressing it can be . We are planning to send my daughter alone to PITT at this time

thank you for your help

Sjsu has excellent recruiting from Silicon Valley but if she wasn’t admitted to the CS major it wouldn’t really matter. In addition, it’s a commuter school so if your daughter is going to the US alone I’d recommend a more residential school.
Pitt and ncsu are both excellent and located in nice cities. Ncsu has a much milder climate.
If you calculate (tuition, fees, room, board) - (scholarships, grants) what’s your result for each if these two ?

Thanks for the valuable pitt = 41 - 20k = 21k. Twenty is for aid/pitt award etc. NCSU we are waiting to hear from them on the aid package. 42 k . so both figures looks the same. i guess residential school/internship/climate will play a leadinging role in deciding it. can you please guide us further .

would be good to know how to assess strength of the program & to know what kind of students goto PITT/NCSU

Pitt and NCSU are about equal academically. Both are fantastic universities that will get you where you need to go, particularly in CompSci. It all depends on which climate you’d prefer; Pitt is in a larger city, but is much colder. NC State has much better weather, milder in the winter. Both have great school spirit and you’d have a ton of fun at either.

Both are equivalent academically. If both end up costing the same, let your daughter look at the virtual tour, the official videos, read up on each in the Fiske Guide or niche, and decide by herself. There’s no wrong choice among the two.
As LBad96 said, Pitt is in a larger city and is much colder, NCSU is in a smaller city in the Research Triangle and has milder winters.

SJSU is not considered to be a great school in Silicon Valley. I would take that off the list. That is not to say companies don’t recruit from SJSU, but the other schools are much more respected. Having said that, after a few years of experience, your school shouldn’t matter much.
