I am choosing between pitt and psu and my major at pitt is environmental studies (BA) and earth science and policy at psu (BS). Socially i think I’d do better at pitt because it is more diverse and I just think I would fit in better. But psu has a more specific department for my major (earth and mineral sciences) and I would have possibly more resources. I would be taking very similar classes at both but I’d be getting a different degree unless I double major in something else at pitt to get both my BA and BS. I also don’t want to solely pick based off my major because who knows if I will switch. Basically I am asking if I will have the same opportunities of research at both schools and could anyone offer input?
I think where you feel comfortable is very important. My nephew from New England private school is a sophomore at Pitt. Absolutely loves it and has s real diverse group of friends. I am sure psu has the same opportunities as well
Do want to be on the edge of big city or state college pa
I love both campuses but I think a city would be better for internships and more fun. I would definitely be more comfortable at Pitt although I know I would find my people at both. I just don’t know if going to psu for my major that I could possibly change is worth it.
Are both the same cost?
If you are going to work in environmental remediation I would say Pitt. And both are great so go where you know you would be more comfortable. Pitt as you mentioned.
Yes, I am a Pennsylvania resident so they are both in state tuition and are pretty equal in cost.
Can you spend an overnight at each, attend a freshman English class and a class in your major, visit the library to see if it makes you feel like studying there, hang out at the student gym, eat with some students…
Did you get into Honors at either?
This is finals week at Pitt. There are no official overnight visits. But you can sit in on classes (when they are in session).
One plus is that Pitt students are done with spring semester a bit earlier, my D can work almost 4 whole months in the summer.
My D took a freshman biology lab where they did bacteriophage research. She then worked as a UTA for that lab in sophomore year.

This is a cool opportunity at Pitt
I think either would be fine for Undergraduate education and you should pick the one you like best. If you are thinking of grad school afterwards your major/degree isn’t a big deal as your research and specific classes needed for grad research.
If you think a city is for you then I would hesitate to pick PSU as it’s in the middle of a large rural area. I lived there for 2 years and couldn’t wait to get out of there.
