Pitt vs Temple vs GW

I’ve gotten accepted into Temple with Honors, GW, Pitt, Hofstra with Honors and Drexel but I am having a really tough time deciding on which to enroll in. I am going to major in Business, maybe finance to be more specific. I want a diverse atmosphere with many opportunities for internships. I also want the school to have a really good reputation for business graduates. Ill describe what the options I have below:

Temple
I was accepting into their honors program, giving a big scholarship and money to study abroad. I would only have to pay $11,000 a year to attend. I know some people that are already going here and I live kind of close by. I like the diversity on campus but i don’t know how well respected Temple is in the business community and how many opportunities I would have for internships compared to like GW

GW
I was accepted and given a $20,000 a year scholarship but I would still have to pay $46,000 a year. I want to go because I know DC has a lot of opportunities and I might want to get involved with the government later on. But i dont know if GW is worth all the money and idk what it’s reputation is for a business school since most people go into politics. I do live a couple hours away and I only know one person who goes there now so I would have to start over

Pitt
I like Pitt and my mom went there so she really wants me to go too. I have a lot of family in Pittsburgh which would be nice. I know their business school is okay. I haven’t heard from the financial aid office yet. I don’t think Pitt is that diverse which would bother me coming from a 60% minority population in high school.

Hofstra
Hofstra was a back up and I got a big scholarship and into their great honors program. I still would be paying $22,000 a year and idk if their business school is worth it. I also live 3-4 hours away but do know one person who is definitely going there. I like the location because it in near nyc but still seems kind of far away

Drexel
I applied to drexel last minute. I like the co-ops but when I visited the campus seemed boring and the classrooms plain. Drexel is a lot of money that I really don’t want to spend on a school I don’t like very much. I would pay $30,000 a year. It is kind of close to home but I don’t know anyone going to Drexel.

Thanks for all your help! I am so confused so any opinions would be great

PS: I also got waitlisted at NYU but I read that they take people off the waitlist based on the amount of money they have so they dont have to give away any more financial aid. So based on that I probably wouldn’t be taken off and if I was I still couldn’t afford it

Unless you know you want to be involved in politics, government, or international affairs…GW, IMHO, is substantially overpriced. I live in DC now, and I’ve not heard much about their business school, but then, I’m not in business. Most students in DC are interested in government and law.

Temple has a good business school but is overshadowed quite a bit locally by Wharton. But I’m sure there are plenty of opportunities in Philly for Temple business students.

Pitt is less diverse than GW and Temple, no doubt, but I don’t think it is anywhere near devoid of diversity or diverse offerings. It has a quality business school with plenty of internship opportunities in Pittsburgh and elsewhere. There are some programs connected to DC, like the School of Public & International Affairs, but I don’t know what is specifically available for undergrads. Even if you weren’t “admitted” to Pitt’s Honors College as a first semester freshman, you can full participate in the Honors College if you desire to do so, at least after your first semester. It is an open membership honors college requiring only the desire to challenge yourself. And if you are comparing honors programs, it is fairly difficult because of how different they all are, but Pitt’s churns out substantially more major scholar/fellow winners. Pitt also has substantially nicer facilities than any of the other schools on your list. However, you need to weigh cost and fit.

I’d choose Temple. Some people don’t like that area of Philly, but that doesn’t seem to be an issue for you. Temple will most likely be the lowest in cost (Pitt will probably be more, maybe a lot more), Temple has the diversity you prefer, Temple’s Fox School of Business is well-respected, and the fact that you are in the Honors Program is a definite plus.

Pittsburgh has a good graduation. Here’s a link if you’d like to see the diversity numbers and lots of other data.

  • good graduation rate (higher that Temple)

I’d drop GW, Drexel, and Hofstra from consideration because Temple is a very strong option at a terrific price.Temple’s Fox Business School is quite good, as is their Honors Program. You would be 5 minutes from Center City so internships should not be a problem.

Pitt is not known for great aid but if the price is competitive with Temple, you may want to consider it. While both are urban campuses, they are very different so hopefully you have visited both.
