Pitt Waitlisted Students [Class of 2027]

Thought we could start a waitlist thread for 2023 Fall Admissions. There is one from last year [Fall 2022], the information there was helpful for our family.

My son applied-10/27/22
Asked to submit mid-year grades-12/22/22
Waitlisted-2/26/23

He has not decided between the two but will commit to Delaware or Drexel by May 1st. Pitt is still his #1 choice.

DS applied 8/24. Submitted mid year grades 1/25 and waitlisted for the fall at main 2/15. My husband andI are both Pitt grads as is his older brother (Dec’21) and his sister is a Junior. He was accepted into Duquesne’s business school and will commit there. Pitt is still his number 1 choice. We are from Eastern PA but he wants to be in the city of pittsburgh

Those who got waitlisted, do you mind to share stats? Did you apply test optional and were asked for mid year grade?

Duq is a great school, too! Biz school alum, here. I have 2 Pitt students currently, Duq didn’t have the 2 programs my kids majored in.
Wanted to let you know, Duq will extend his acceptance beyond May 1 if you ask and tell them you are waiting to hear from Pitt waitlist. You will not have to make the non-refundable deposit.
Hmmf to Pitt with all that money you’ve funneled into them already!

Thank you! I didn’t know they would do that!! Who should I contact? He is torn. Pitt has always been his dream school, but he loves the city of Pittsburgh and I think DUQ would be a better fit (Smaller school, more 1:1 with Teachers, advisors, won’t get lost in the shuffle of advisors coming and going, etc) Plus already entering into the Business school is a plus.

@Beishan, my son applied to Pitt Test Optional, submitted execellend mid year grades and was waitlisted

I heard that they were waitlisting applicants effective in Feb, but also saw other kids were accepted in March, so that is leaving a tad of a bad taste in my mouth. Pitt has over 150K of my money right now :frowning:

I’d start with the admissions rep who is probably corresponding with him currently. I would call that person and talk. Explain how you are all Pitt alums + siblings etc. but you don’t want to lose your Duq spot as it’s still in the running, but you just need more time to hear from Pitt. I think they will give you until June 1st.

If he does end up at Duq I know he will have an awesome experience.
We have family members and several friends kids there currently and they are all doing awesome things. It’s a first-class institution.

So glad to help and hear that! You cannot beat Duq Business school, honestly.
Pitt’s loss would be Duquense’s gain  Keep us posted !

This is pretty decent stats and is surprised that he got waitlisted. It made me worried about my son’s application next year as we also plan to apply Test Optional. Sorry that he did not get what he wanted but both UDel and Drexel can be great choice too. They are on our list as well.

My son was waitlisted as well at Pitt - he was test optional. He got into University of Delaware and really liked the school but we took a drive to see Duquesne as he apply after being waitlisted at Pitt - so it was really late. Lo and behold Duquesne loved him - gave him merit - and when we visited the campus he loved it - 5 minutes in he said “I’m coming here”.

The same weekend we went to West Virginia - he hated it. Then we shot over to Pitt - I think the feeling is he felt it was overhwelming - Duquesne has the right class size for him and its closer to downtown - as its in downtown. He always wanted urban. I knew nothing about Pitt or Duquesne - I just liked Pitt for the big time football - but they don’t play on campus. It helped that I have a co-worker who son graduated from Pitt - in high school he slept, ate and drank football but when he got to Pitt he went to 1 game. So maybe I was looking at it wrong…lol. Its about my son’s choice. He didn’t feel comfortable at any of the big schools - Temple, West Virgina, Pitt, East Carolina etc. We went to one of the admittance students event and my wife and I grilled a teacher about internships, resume prep, interview prep and the industry in Pitt. I really liked what I heard and it was on a personal level - I think my son will get that attention! Go Dukes!

Yes - he is un-declared business. We paid the deposit last night. Now for student housing. The towers look cool but I think we will try St. Anne’s Hall first and see what is available.

Having grown up in Philly all my life and seeing from afar Pittsburgh and the history (in my ca
se all sports related) its so exciting to have my child become a resident. I’m super excited for him.

For people in the waitlist boat next year - be patient it will happen. My son received his letter today and he received merit. DO NOT LET anyone tell your kid won’t get in because they were waitlisted. Its a waiting game and other people like to pontificate that they know more then they actually do. My son will go to Duquesne because its his choice. I’m here to just say don’t give up hope! Be patient - it will happen - I knew it would for my son - I said it back in February.

Go Dukes and Panthers!!

My Duquesne freshman - accepted Pitt student - was home for Thanksgiving. I asked him if he wants to go to Pitt as he was offered January enrollment. Wasn’t a question I should have asked as he is thriving on the Bluff. He visits Pitt U a lot but feels at home at Duq. This is the right fit for him and I’m proud HE made the decision and not me. Now I have to tell Pitt he isn’t coming…
