Pitt wants my mid-term grades. What sign is this?

i just received a letter that Pitt wants my mid-term grades. I am not worried because even as a senior I keep a 3.57 gpa in the first marking period and I just need to repeat it in the current marking period, no problem.

My question is what does this mean? good sign? bad sign? Does this mean I am in close competition with a lot of people?
Only other worry is that my mid terms don't come out until end of January 2014, then I have to send the grades in and the review process takes another few weeks. too much time to wait?!

I guess im on the bubble.
Thanks.

I’m in the same boat as you (with a slightly higher gpa). The advice I received was send in any additional information you didn’t originally send in (resume, rec letters, etc) or any improved standardized test scores and you’ll hopefully be fine. No idea what you’re majoring in or what your SAT/ACT score is, but I personally know kids who got into the business school with 3.9/1600(3 sections) while I got the “send in additional information” with a 3.66/1880 for engineering. I’m hoping the same gpa + a 1370/2050 on the sat will get me over the hump.

Great advice from brianz about sending in extra stuff. I am FAR from an expert but based on previous posts I;ve read, I think it means Pitt is interested but they want to see a strong showing for the first part of your senior year too and ideally a little better than what you have so far. My guess is maybe you had one “low” year or a slightly downward trend in grades. My advice is keep doing what you are doing, focus on sending them a great midyear transcript, and trust it will work out. I def think LOR;s would help too as your teachers can help explain what a great kid, student you are and Pitt can get to know you are more than just your grades.
