Does anyone know how many high school seniors are interviewed and how many are selected? S. is going for the interview next month.

When did your son submit the application? When did he recieve the interview. How was he notified?

The invite to apply came after Xmas. The app with extra essays and recs was due Jan 29. The notification arrived this morning via email.

Not too sure how many people are invited, but around 8-13 people are accepted.

Thanks, Highonrice. I found a very old thread that said 5 out of 75 interviewed… Your info is probably more up to date…

My D joined PITT BSMD program last year. Nearly 75 students were interviewed . She says her class has 12 guaranteed admit program students.

Guys, would you mind posting some stats? VERY interested in this program.

got an interview too! excited but nervous. rajunt, would you or your daughter have any tips on the whole interview process? thanks for any input!!

The interview was focussed more on assessing the personality and attitude rather than academics. They also ensure one has 100% commitment for medicine. My D did research in U of Michigan astrophysics lab and they asked so many questions on why she did that and why she is coming to medicine. Ofcourse, she also did research in U of M cancer hospital, but they wanted to make sure she will NOT consider physics or astronomy in the future as her primary interests. They need some one who is 100% dedicated towards medicne and who can work with patients in a loving manner. They try to see and assess these qualities in others during the interview process. Hope this helps!

I have a 33 ACT and a 4.0 GPA but I never got the extra application in December… Why do think that is? Do they not send it to all the applicants that meet the requirements?

Indichick

What was your essay about? S has 4.25 weighted/3.75 unweighted 1440 SAT/800Math Sat II … and wrote about being diagnosed at 7 with Juvenile Diabetes. Also wrote about how -despite playing violin for 12years --he decided to pursue medicine and not Juilliard. He was invited to apply for Chancellors but turned it down for Faison and the Honors Program. Are you interviewing for Chancellors? Seems that there is a connection between the merit awardees and the invite. But I am not certain what the parameters or triggers were for the invites. Perhaps someone else can jump in.

I didn’t get an invite to the GAPMed interview, but I did get an invite, and accepted it, for the CS interview. Are the Chancellor’s Scholarship and GAPMed program invites mutually exclusive? If I would have turned down the CS interview invite, would I have gotten an invite to the GAPMed interview? Does anyone know if I could still switch one for the other?

Thanks for your help.

Chancellor’s and the GAP decisions are completely separate. They don’t affect one another.

Shaocc

You cannot switch one for the other. They have nothing to do with each other. What is noteworthy is that many of the Med Invitees seem to have received substaintial merit awards as well. Since Pitt’s application is nothing like the ones S. completed for other schools, I would presume that they are looking at stats, stated major/field interest in concert with the essay/s.

But don’t they send out the extra application for the Guaranteed admit program to everyone that meets the requirements?
I applied and met the requirements but never got the additional application… could there have been a mixup?

Thanks for your responses!

indichick, if you didn’t indicate Pre-Med or Bioengineering as your prospective major, I don’t think that you will receive an additional application to GAPMed. If you did list that, then I don’t know why they didn’t send it to you. Sorry!

I don’t think it’s automatic (indicate Pre-med… and get an invite…)… You should send an email and ask.

Has any out of stater got an invite to GAP as yet? App status says under review still

Does anyone know about how many students get called for interview?
thanks!
