I was wondering what my chances of getting into Pitzer are and if I should shoot for a higher or lower tier school, even though I think Pitzer would be a perfect fit for me. I'm a freshman at a HBCU currently looking to transfer for the Fall 2010 semester. My high school gpa was terrible at only a 2.5, for lack of effort.

So far my resume looks like this:
27 ACT
3.6 gpa this semester with only about 15 credit hours, next semester will be 20 hours.
Freshman Senator on Student Government
Working a job with the state while in school
Leading a campus ministry
Hopefully some community service hours by the end of the year

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Looks pretty good. They really like that students interview as well.

Please help me!! I applied to Pitzer regular decision and it is my top choice, but I am really really worried about getting in.

GPA: 4.6 Weighted, 3.7 Unweighted
ACT: 32 w/ writing
Class rank: 3
I am really, really involved with theater at my school, and I have a part time job at a toy store, but other than that I don’t do tons of activities. I do ESL tutoring sometimes and snowboard, and I’m on NHS.
I’m from Denver, I go to an inner city high school, and I started high school in IB but dropped out before my junior year.
I did interview with Pitzer too, but my interview seemed really short (only about 15 minutes over the phone) and I’m not sure if I conveyed in my essay well enough the type of person I am. I had one really great recommendation, and two other mediocre ones.

I also am looking for quite a bit of financial aid.

I am freaking out about this. What are my chances of getting in?

Your GPA is off for Pitzer criteria, so you need to be involved in more outreach, social advancement causes or non-profits. There are many areas that can demonstrate your aim to help communities, such as: homeless, domestic violence, environmental, etc. Get involved!

cbringenberg, how did you do a phone interview? Did they ask you, or did you suggested it??

BrookeDavis,

Obviously I’m not cbringenberg, but as far as I know Pitzer will set up phone interviews in the event that a prospective student cannot visit campus in person. I’d call the Office of Admission and ask a counselor about it, the best way to find out is simply to ask the college in question.
