CONGRATS

Denied. But it’s alright because I got accepted to Lewis and Clark so there’s somewhere to go for me! Good luck to the rest of you and with your admissions.

Accepted!!! Congrats to all the future Sagehens!

Stats:
-supported by the Pomona-Pitzer swim coach in the admissions process (not top recruit though, also you can’t have all that much support in Divison 3, but I definitely think she helped a lot)
-African American
-Public school, about 1400 students
-DID NOT SUBMIT TEST SCORES
-recruited athlete (swim&dive)
-GPA: UW=3.9, W=4.1
-ranked 61 out of about 299-310 ish
-took no honors classes freshman year, took two honors classes (bio and english) sophomore year, took 2 AP classes and 1 honors class junior year (AP Lang, APUSH, and H Pre Calc), taking/have taken 3 AP classes senior year (AP Literature, AP Macroeconomics, and AP Calc AB) and my school offers 17 AP classes btw!
-President of NHS, member for 3 years, was the Commissioner of Communications my junior year
-President of the Improv Team (since junior year), member for 3 years
-President of FCA as a junior, member for 3 years
-Leader board for Drama Club, won multiple awards in drama over the last 3 years, participated in almost every musical and play production at my school for the last 3 years with lead roles
-Swimming on the same club team since the age of 5, at the beginning of the summer I started teaching students of minority backgrounds that attend the local bilingual elementary school in my area how to swim twice a week after I’d finish my swim practice. Swimming on a club team is very expensive and these were all low-income students, but through the program, they were able to learn for free! Each student entered the program not knowing how to swim at all, and within a couple months were able to join the big swim team (my team) and they now swim every day. I specifically wrote my common app. essay about the bond I formed with a little girl who entered the program deathly afraid of swimming and almost drowned, but, with my help and the help of my coach, she is now a swimmer on the club team! (Advice to future applicants, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE ON YOUR ESSAYS!! I took about 3-4 months to write mine and STILL thought of things that I could’ve changed/added after submitting my app.)
-Captain of the Varsity Girls Swim Team (since junior year), been swimming on varsity since freshman year, qualified for CIF championship every year.
-200+ hours of community service, won the Mayor’s Award for community service both sophomore and junior year, 1 of 2 recipients of the Most Outstanding Volunteer Award for my school, majority of hours spent working at a place that provides children/families in need in my area with clothing and other everyday resources; sorting donations and helping families find what they need.
-Wrote both the Pitzer supplement and the common application essay about my community service projects.

(this is roughly all of the things I did while in high school, I’m sure I’m leaving out a thing or two but I can’t remember off the top of my head)

DEMONSTRATED INTEREST:
all caps because I believe this is a BIG part of why I was accepted

I live about 4 hours away from Pitzer and visited the school 4 times from July to October

  1. took a tour and went to an information session, then met the swim coach
  2. interviewed at Pitzer over the summer (went really well)
  3. was invited to/went to an overnight official visit for recruits (Sept. 22 through Sept. 24)
  4. went to Pitzer Preview Day, late October

If I hadn’t been rejected from the Diversity Program (fly-in program), I would’ve gone to that, but they said I’d been to campus so much that they had to give priority to the students who’d never been before. lol.

If you live out-of-state or you’re an international student, there are still ways for you to demonstrate your interest to Pitzer and I highly recommend that you do if it’s your top choice!

My experience applying to Pitzer:

Every time the coach or admissions emailed me, I made sure to respond right away. When admissions sent me invitations to listen to webinars, I made sure to watch every single one. I knew from July that Pitzer was THE school for me so my biggest priority was to show them how much I loved their school. I took every opportunity given to show them that I wanted to be there and I think that’s a really big part of why I was accepted. In my interview, I made sure to show off my knowledge of the school and its history, also asked a lot of questions. Every time I visited, I only found myself loving the school even more, which became a little scary as NO ONE is guaranteed acceptance. When visiting other schools, I really did not feel anything close to how I felt being at Pitzer. I do not think I could’ve gotten through this process without my MOM who drove me to Pitzer every single time I visited (which is a lot of miles and gas) and helped me not lose my mind during this process. So teens, PLEASE APPRECIATE YOUR PARENTS during this process and work together! I also know that reading past forums on College Confidential was EXTREMELY helpful during this process, especially when comments were detailed!

So I hope that this helped someone! Good luck to future applicants! And to those who don’t get in, I believe with all my heart that there is a place for you!! Never lose hope!

Son got accepted. Saw the Instagram update at around 6pm, he didnt get an email - but we checked portal at 7.30 and got the Update - he’s so happy.

I got denied as a recruited athlete (soccer)

I had
-3.5/4.0 GPA (Strong upward trend, 3.2 freshman year to 3.95 junior year)
-32 on the ACT
-9 AP courses
-public school
-two internships, one with my congressman, one at a museum
-Religious diversity (Unitarian Universalist)
-Geographical diversity (East Coast)

I was really upset at first guys, in fact, I was in disbelief.
Pitzer is an amazing school and congrats to those of you who are admitted, but when there’s such a low acceptance rate and they admit so holistically, admissions is a crapshoot.

Everything works out, though! I got an unconditional offer into the honors history program at University of Edinburgh which is much cheaper, bigger, and comparable reputation wise.

Best of luck everyone, enjoy second semester!!!

Hey guys! I’ve applied for ED2. But I’m an international student who needs a full ride.

Hey guys, I am beyond excited to get to know everyone at Pitzer! I was accepted to the class of 2021 ED1. Congrats to everyone who was accepted! To those who are still hearing back, good luck! Pitzer college was my top choice! Feel free to ask me about my stats, if anything I hope they give you a better idea/more holistic view on the college admissions process and selection.

@unknownperson45 My friend was accepted to Lewis and Clark as well! Congrats. I am so sorry that you didn’t get in, but there are so many incredible colleges out there for you! Lewis and Clark college is an amazing institution and if you attend, I hope it fits you like a glove! Best wishes!
