Pitzer vs. Colorado College vs. Emerson

Hi everyone! So, after all my results have finally trickled in, I've narrowed my choices down to Colorado College, Pitzer, and Emerson. (I'm still waiting on a waitlist from Kenyon + Middlebury, but that's not likely so I'll be happy to enroll at any of the above 3!)

I wanted to get people's opinions on any of the above 3 versus the others. I love the idea of small classes, which they all seem to have, and a friendly, outgoing student body. I want to be a creative writing/English major, so if anyone knows about the reputation of either of the schools' English departments, I'd love the info.
Also, I live in NY...so my parents are a little iffy about the 2 long plane rides.

I don’t really know anything about Colorado College or Emerson, except that I know a lot of Pitzer students turned down Colorado College for Pitzer.

I believe our English major is one of the more stronger majors on campus, but we also have access to english classes at Scripps, which focuses on the Humanities.

My recommendation is to call each of the departments heads, or one of the professors in the departments at each school and basically ask them, “Why is their english dept. and major better than other schools?”

that’s a good idea! and interesting about pitzer over CC…hmm.
well thank you!

Emerson is obviously EXTREMELY focused on the arts, so to me it seems like it is less of a liberal arts (or rounded) education than you might find at Pitzer or CC.

CC is, of course, famous for its block plan of taking only one class at a time. This forms certain schedules and expectations. Beyond that, it certainly has a different social and academic feel than Pitzer, but to what extent I do not know.

As for the plane rides, if you fly to LAX as I do, that is a pretty standard east-to-west route, and can be affordable.

For Creative Writing at Pitzer, you might consider contacting Prof. Brent Armendinger: I believe he advises the Creative Writing track of the English Major: [Pitzer College - Faculty - Brent Armendinger, MFA](http://www.pitzer.edu/academics/faculty/armendinger/)

Hope this helps.

thanks! it def helps.

Dont go to Pitzer. I just transferred from there. Its a joke academically and a waste of the 50 grand.

Out of curiosity, what made you choose Pitzer in the first place? Also how were you able to get into Stanford as a transfer student? Was Stanford your first choice initially?
