Pizza/food delivery

Veteran parents - where do the kids get food delivery from? My cousin wants to get my S a gift certificate for someplace that delivers, and I’m not sure where to suggest.

Jimmy John’s sandwiches has “freaky fast” delivery. My niece at Bama says it shows up in the amount of time it takes to make it yourself, if you had the ingredients, which you don’t.

Cheaper than pizza, and they’re on the strip if S would rather take the gift card and pick it up or eat it there.

Seconding Jimmy John’s. My daughter doesn’t have a meal plan and JJ’s delivery shows up on her bank statements with great regularity.

Jason’s Deli delivers and has a nice menu.

They don’t deliver, but FIG’s has wonderful casseroles ready to buy frozen. FIG is a restaurant with very good food. Chef David prepares everything and his casseroles are very good and come in 2-3 different sizes.

The Mexican Beef Lasagna is amazing…but everything he makes is very good.

These casseroles come frozen, and can be cooked in an oven, but I thaw mine in the fridge during the day and either heat in the microwave or toaster oven that night.

I know there is a great link to the many restaurants in T’town…but do we actually have a list somewhere of those restaurants which deliver? A laminated (and maybe even bejeweled) “A”-list of these places + phone #s would make a great ‘gift’ magnet to leave on the fridge at move-out. Crafters, get busy…

So, so far we have:

Jason’s Deli
2300 McFarland Blvd E, Tuscaloosa
(205) 752-6192

Jimmy John’s
1400 University Blvd, Tuscaloosa
(205) 366-3699

Here’s the recent thread on TTown restaurants. Plenty to choose from for OOS family members who would rather send a gift card instead of cash…

There is a Hungry Howie’s on the strip. We used to have one close to us. Pretty good pizza and wings. They should deliver. Love me some Jimmy Johns though.

Based on internet research, the following deliver AND take Bama Cash (which would be helpful to upperclassmen who have rolled lots of Dining Dollars to Bama Cash).

Buffalo Phil’s
Domino’s
Hungry Howie’s
Jason’s
Lenny’s Sub Shop
Moe’s
Papa John’s
Pizza Hut
Wingzone

Thanks, that’s really helpful!

I’m not a veteran parent and have no suggestions, but I think a gift card for a place that delivers is a great idea. D’s birthday is in the fall and I may need to refer back to this for suggestions for grandparents asking the same question.

I have not personally used this service but I think it is a terrific idea. You can pre-order in advance. I am sure that it is a part time job for students, so don’t forget to tip.

There is a Facebook page and most of the reviews are positive.

My daughter discovered this while on campus for HHMI this summer. Ugh- I guess it’s ultimately cheaper than a car.

I am surprised that more students don’t use this service but I think it is catching on.

With 3 restaurants to choose from, I’m not surprised it isn’t a hit. Why are the many other options listed as “closed”?

I think that shows real time status of the restaurant.

Yesterday about 6 pm, the same 3 were open and the other umpteen were ‘closed’. I don’t think any of those are open for breakfast?!
