place to stay for bdd?

hey guys, does anyone know if we must have a parent with us for blue devil days?

if i fly in by myself, is there a cheap place i could possible stay at?

thanks!

You can opt to get a current student as a host…

cool thanks

EDIT: wait, how does one do that…? haha sorry, i feel so clueless.

Get in touch with the admissions office as time draws closer and they’ll probably arrange something for you.

I would draft that email now…and let them get back to you. We met several students on blue devil days who had flown in or driven in solo. There are duke students willing to let you sleep on the floor in their rooms although they may be studying for exams or busy, so carry a sleeping bag and overnight supplies. Someone will come to the admissions office at the appointed time to pick you up and you will get on a shuttle to East Campus and likely do an overnight on the freshman campus. Some students will knock themselves out showing you around, others just let you do your own thing. Our son went to two classes and to a couple of public evening events on his own solo and one of those events was the dealbreaker for him…he happened to attend the last concert of the Duke Symphony that year and he recognized espirit de corps and a level of play that fitted his idea of how to spend a couple of nights a week among like minded people who love great music but do not have the inclination or commitment required at conservatories. There are all sorts of open houses and ways to drift around and get the feel of the place in the libraries and coffee shops as well. My point is that if you come, prepare to be solo some of the time regardless if your parents are with you or not. You will meet students deciding between Duke and other schools who you may never see again or you might meet one of your new BFFs.

thank you guys so much for your advice! :D

and congratulations

For even more detailed information:

Login to your Decisions page-
Click on the link to the Blue Devil Days. Choose the date you are interested in attending. You will be able to view a pdf with a complete schedule. When you register at the same BDD site, you will choose the date you want to attend. Two of the dates do not provide hosting overnight. The site states this clearly. So if you would like an overnight stay with a host student, choose one of the other 3 dates.

The pdf for your particular dates contains a detailed schedule and map for all of your activities- including the where and when to meet your host student AND what you will be doing with your host student.

If you come with your parents, you can stay with them OR still choose to stay overnight in the dorms with a host student.

thanks faline!

yorkiemom, thank you for the detailed reply. that helps a lot.
