Has anybody here taken the French placement exam? I'm transferring to Michigan as a junior in the fall and I've had 3 semesters of French at my current university.

How exactly do placement exams work? If I get a good score, does that mean that my French classes can go towards fulfilling my Language Requirement? UMich already told me that my French classes transferred successfully, but if I do badly on the placement exam, do they just not go towards my Language Requirement?

Also, how should I prepare? Are the placement exams hard?

As far as I know, all the placement exam does is determine which class at U of M you should be in. If the credits from your other school transferred, they’re going to count in some way, but Michigan still has to determine from what you’ve learned at your other school what level of French you’re ready for here. I think. Someone should correct me if I’m wrong.

I’m not sure how the credits will work out towards fulfilling the requirement, but the exam itself is very easy.
Since you’ve already had three semesters of college-level French it won’t take much effort. I think that even if you end up being placed into a lower level, you’d still be able to petition them or something.
