Placement Exam!!!

Whats this placement exam that I have to give now that I've accepted my offer? Is it compulsory?

You were supposed to have done it by May 23. Yes, you have to do it.

You are required to take the exam in three subjects: English, Math and Chemistry. After they receive the results, they will have a better understanding of what sections to place you in these subjects (Chemistry placement is only for science, engineering and other related majors; Math only for math, comp. sci, science, engineering, etc.; everyone is required to take English Comp.)

We were amused at FTCAP because our very anti-math & science daughter was invited to register for Math 140--she laughed!

If you do good on the three subjects they will place you in

MATH 140 (Cal I)
ENGL 015
Chem 012

if you do bad on the test or if you don't do it they will place you in classes below that- which could make you behind 1 or 2 semesters.

I am very bad in english (VSAT=380) and was invited to register for ENGL 015 (because of my placement exam?).

Don't worry about ENGL 015, Killer; most kids end up taking it. Since you're an Engineering major, that's probably where you should be. It's only the very verbal/writing oriented kids--like my D--that end up in ENGL 030.

When you go for FTCAP they will give you the results of the placement exam and it will all make sense. The exams are a very wise way to make sure that frosh do not end up in coursework for whcih they are not prepared. For example, if you do poorly (or even middling) in the math exam, but are scheduled for calculus, they'll take that into account and schedule some college level algebra first, etc. What they do is tell you how you did, statistically, against other students who have sought that major - for example how you did against other Chem Es, or other Liberal arts majors, etc.

If you're way off with respect to your preparation in a given area, tbey want to make sure they catch that before you launch into calculus, for example, that you'll have trouble with.

As for English, if you do well they'll offer you Eng 30 (honors). If you do poorly, they might schedule some remedial work (if I recall correctly). In the middle? It's Eng 15.

For example, my S was offered Eng 30 because he smoked the exam, but it was suggested he take college level algebra (I forget the course #) before taking calc, because he was a bit below the mean there. He bombed the CHem but has no interest in that with respect to his major, so it does not matter at all.

even if you schedule a class that you think your prepared for i.e MATH 110, 140, they will give you a quiz the first day and if you are not above the average for the class, they will re-assign you to a lower level math class.

Why do business majors take the chemistry placement exam?

"In the middle? It's Eng 15"

Actually English 015 is the normal freshman course.
Engl 30 is an honors class.

If one does really bad on the English test, they place the person in Engl 04.

Is ENGL 004 easier than ENGL 015? Will it prepare me for ENGL 015?

ENGL 004 is def. easier than ENGL 015, but I would only take ENGL 004 if you are placed into the class and you don't recieve any credit for ENGL 004 in your general education requirements. ENGL 015 you do get credit for. I would take engl 15, its a good class.

they told me in the email that I can take it any time by 17 August. So what kind of questions do they give?and what kind of preparation do i need?

well the engliush is kinda hard bc u have to know how to spell words and then the rest is just like satsand then the math is easy just make sure u know a little basic trig and then chem is just basic chem 1 stuff

Take your placement ASAP so you can get registered for classes...and jeez don worry so much about the test...if your worried this much about the placements. I fear for you when finalz come around ;) lol.
