<p>So a lot of people have told me that they'll be taking "placement exams" soon, and I don't really have a lot of information on what they really are.</p>
<p>So can someone give me some information on this? Is it a test that basically helps place you in a certain class (Level 100, or level 200, etc.), and for which subjects is it given out? For Math basically, is there just one type of Placement Test, or are there different Placement Tests for EACH and EVERY math course at a college (Calculus I, Calculus II, Statistics). Is there simply one test that covers the subject of "Math"?</p>
<p>Also, when are most of these given, and would we have to take them at the college we are going to, or can we simply take it somewhere and give in the scores to the college we are going to? </p>

<p>Placement tests are tests that you take to go into certain classes. Essentially, it measures how much you know about a subject and then places you in an appropriate class (e.g. Calculus I, Calculus II, etc.) You do not take placement tests for every single math class available. </p>
<p>The exact procedure and whatnot always depends on your college. For example, at the University of Washington, there are two different types of placement exams: intermediate and advanced, the latter of which allows one to enroll in Calculus I. They are given out multiple times a year there. You might not also not even have to take the placement exam; AP credit would be enough. </p>
<p>My presumption is that you only have to take one placement test, but you should check with your prospective college/university. You also have to check when it is offered (it's usually offered during orientation, so I wouldn't worry there.) There is no "set" placement exam; they vary between colleges.</p>
