placement exams

Can someone explain how math/lang placement works at penn??

I’ve taken calc AB in high school and I want to go into math 103. Will doing poorly on the AP test guarantee me placement into that class? Or will it be so unbearably easy that I should just try to go into 104??

I’ve taken latin and spanish in high school. I have 800, 5, 5 in spanish. If I don’t want to go into a high level, what placement tests are offered and when would I have to register for those? What level do you recommend I go into?

For latin, would I be allowed to take the sat in june and use that for placement? Will scores of 1, 2, or 3 also serve to place you in a class? (I read something on the website saying only scores of 4 and 5 are used for placement purposes but I don’t remember if this was just for math)

thanks

1) Math 104 is equivalent to Calc BC. Math 103 is equivalent to Calc AB - and Math 103 is technically remedial, which means you should start out in 104 at first and drop down only if you really need to.

2) I don’t think Latin counts for language. A 5 in spanish (or 800) covers your placement entirely - you don’t need to take language at Penn if you don’t want to.

I want to though

when would I have to take placement tests for those though??

will an sat/ap for latin be used for placement?
