Placement test for Foreign language major

Hi y'all! I'm from Indonesia. I would like to ask you guys a question. I would like to move to a university with a good foreign language program either in the U.S or Canada after completing high school for the next two years. I would like to study either french, italian or spanish. They say you have to take a placement test if you want to major in a foreign language. But, what if I have negative zero experience with any of those 3 languages? The only foreign language that I've studied so far is Chinese, but I'm not willing to take it as my language major. Do you really have to have some past experience with the language to pass the placement test and get admitted? What if you fail the placement test? Does it mean that you won't get admitted?

Many thanks to the people who answer this question :)

The placement test is for people that have studied the language before so they can skip the beginning level courses. If you haven’t had any experience you don’t take the test and just enroll in the beginning level.
