Can anyone tell me when incoming freshmen's can start taking there placement tests?

May 29th. Must take the test three days before your orientation day.

I believe you can take it anytime after you have registered for orientation as long as it is least 3 days before for the math and 5 days before for the writing placement test.

I see the option of taking my placement tests when I log into wolverine access but haven’t taken them yet because I’m not very motivated.

Are you guys actually going to study for the placement tests? I hear the math is extremely easy… but I don’t want to fail it and have my advisor judge me. lol

For Michigan, do we just take the tests online? I was told we take them DURING orientation.

We are required to take the math and writing(english/literature) placement exams online prior to orientation 3 and 5 days prior respectively. The chemistry placement exam is proctored and will be administered during orientation(first day I believe) as well as foreign languages (excluding spanish). I obtained this information when I registered for LSA orientation but I am currently recalling it the best I can. However I think it is accurate

Also what major did you indicate ( as well as what school ex: COE, LSA) determines which placement exams you need to take.

I am doing LSA biophysics - have you heard anything about it (there’s not too much information regarding it)?

I hope I have been of some help goodluck

mflp is correct about the placement tests.

So when is LSA orientation? I’m a parent and I need dates. Thanks for your help!

Lisa, if your child sent in the registration deposit, he or she should have been sent an email regarding registration for orientation. There are dates throughout June and July and early August. The email went out several days ago so some of the dates may already be taken.

“The chemistry placement exam is proctored and will be administered during orientation(first day I believe) as well as foreign languages (excluding spanish).”

Did something change from last year? My son is a freshman and took the Spanish placement exam during orientation.

I think that the Spanish exam can be taken either in person or online. But all other languages are exclusively proctored.

What if you end up submitting your tests after the required deadline?

That’s what I did because I did not know there was a deadline. The writing placement test I thought I had submitted earlier however, but unfortunately it never did submit so I’m now submitting it the day before orientation?

Will that affect my schedule? Will I still get a seat in a first-year writing seminar?

Hmm for the language placement test, what do I do if the foreign language that I want to do does not have a placement test on Orientation?

Based on https://www.lsa.umich.edu/rll/langinstruct/placementtest.html, placement tests are only offered for French, Spanish and Italian on Orientation, and Portuguese test by appointment. I’m not intending to do any of those but choose some Asian languages. Do I have to contact specific department before Orientation to issue me a placement test later on, or arrange a placement test appointment after Orientation?

Paperstars. Japanese is offered at orientation as well as many other languages, but I think that’s the only Asian language.

Paperstars, asian language placement tests are offered at the beginning of fall/winter semester. You can register by shooting the listed professor’s email when the info goes up for this fall.

tcwestperrin - Thanks! I’m thinking of taking either Japanese or Chinese so I might take the placement test on Orientation. :)

be_somebody - Thanks for the website, it’s really helpful! I’ll contact the professor after deciding which language I’m going to take.
