Placement test for physics 302k!!!!!

Hi guys my current citation is that i am at a community college. I am transferring to ut austin this fall for neurobiology/premed. my problem is that the physics teacher i currently have is very hard on her tests. She gives us questions on the test that we have never seen before. and are really tricky. The class average in their is 55 on most of the tests..... I personally know most of the material because i can do the stuff in the book and understand it but am still making 60's on the test. If i dont drop the class the best i can make is a C which i certainly don't want to do. If i do drop it i can try to teach my self from the book and give a placement test at ut austin for physics 302k. Do you guys recommend this at all? My main concerns are that i dont want to be behind when i am in physics two. Also how does this look for medical schools?? do they even except a placement credit..... because physics 1 is a general requirement for med school.

My daughter hadn’t had AP physics but she had a decent high school honors physics class. She took the SAT II Physics test last June right after her senior year ended.
As long as you get at least a 600, UT will give you credit for PHY 302K, 102M, 302L, and 102N

Would this help you? You don’t have to claim all of the credit by exam that they are willing to give you - you could just claim 302K and 102M and then register for 302L and 102N, if that is what you want to do.

Is there no curve? If the average is 55, I would think so.

yes fiyero she adds 12 points to the exams. like i stated the best i will be able to make with a curve is a c. Midwestmom thats a good idea… but i dont know if med schools take ap credits.

I thought you were suggesting you would skip 302K / try to use credit by exam for for 302K and then actually register for 302L at UT? If that were your plan I didn’t think it would matter. But I think for med school you should have one full year of classroom and lab college physics on your transcript (without credit by exam). I think that if you are sure med school is your goal you should just drop the community college class that would yield a C grade and register for 302K in the fall and 302L in the spring next year.

Is there a pre-med advisor at your CC who can advise you on this? That would be best. Otherwise maybe check studentdoctor.net or the pre-med area here at CC and see what people say.

thanks midewstmom you are really helpful. i do need to talk to a premed advisory and i guess i will just drop it and try to make an A with a better proff

Just be sure dropping it doesn’t endanger your transfer. Good luck at UT!

Would it really be a drop at this point in the semester, or would it be a withdraw? A “W” on your transcript is almost as bad. Graduate schools look at those as a D/F.

And with the class average being a 55, is the going to be a curve at the end of the semester? If so, you might want to stick it out… and if you don’t know, ask.
