So I took the math placement test a few weeks ago and it was much harder then what Rutgers had provided in the sample questions/test. I’m OOS so I took the placement test at my high school and instead of being 3 multiple choice sections like they had described, it was two sections with the pre-calc being short answer and much more involved/harder then the practice questions. I had studied for this so even though it was harder then I had thought I still came out of thinking I did pretty well given there was only about 5 out of 50ish question where I didn’t feel comfortable with my answer. However, I got the results today and only placed into precalc 115 which I’m pretty disappointed with given I’m taking calc now and have a 98% and had a similar grade in precalc. Is anyone else in a similar situation or knows of a way to still be able to take calculus 1st semester? Also not to sound snobby but is there (or does anyone know if there has been in the past) a possibility that they could have made a mistake in grading/entering the grade of the exam?
Just curious, were you in a precalculus honors class? Also, are you currently in AP Calculus AB or a different level calculus class?
If you’re currently in an AP calc class and pass the exam with a 4 or 5, it may be possible to be moved into Calc 1.
If you do get the 4/5 on the exam, you will get the credit for the appropriate calc class and move on. The placement exam score will not matter.
In all honesty though, if you are in AP Calc, then you really shouldn’t have placed into precalc with the exam.
Unfortunately I’m in IB sl math which second year covers the same material as AB calc but Rutgers doesn’t offer credit for it. I also can’t just register for the test because it’s at the same time as my IB English test.
