Do you guys know if you still have to take a placement test for reading if you get exactly a 600 in critical reading on the sat? I know for math, everyone has to take it.

It’s 600 or higher, so a 600 should exempt you. When you register for placement testing, it says this:

Check box if you have a Verbal SAT score of 600 or higher; or an ACT ‘Total’ English score of 30 or higher (you are exempt * from taking the English test, your math test will start at 10:00 am).

Regarding the OP’s comment that you have to take the math placement test: SAT scores won’t exempt you from the math but the AP exam will.

The placement information sheet that was provided at our out-of-state accepted students breakfast earlier this month indicates that if you have scored a 4 or 5 on either the AP Calc AB or the AP Calc BC exams taken in JUNIOR year, you do not have to take the math placement test, as long as you have sent Rutgers your scores.

Not that I’m going to do this, but could you just check that you received a 600 on the CR and be exempt from the reading section? They probably check to verify that nobody is lying.

And another question I have regarding the placement test is about the precal section. Do you have to answer the precal part of the test if you haven’t taken a precalculus course? On the sample question part on the website, it says you should not answer these questions if you haven’t taken a course covering these topics but I don’t know if this is applicable on the real test?

just try to do your best :)

i think they tell you not to answer certain sections because they don’t want you guessing right answers and being placed in a higher level math course. most of the test was alg 1 and 2 stuff, if i remember.
