Hello, I'm going to be a first-year this fall. My question is that if I'm not plannning on taking a subject first semester, should I still sign up for its placement test (that is administered during orientation)? Do students who want to place into a higher-level course for a subject second semester take a placement test later on?

I'm also a first year but from what I read I understood it to mean you should take it now if you ever intend to take a class in that subject and don't want to start with the intro class. Also does anyone know if we should still take the placement exams in subjects that we did not earn an AP score of 5 on?

Hi, I'm a first-year, too...so I might be wrong, but this is what I think.
Even if you didn't get a 5 of the AP, you should take the placement exam.

I didn't take the AP in Spanish (and if I had, I doubt I would have gotten a 5). But, I have taken Spanish since 5th grade....and I presume that Spanish 101 will be very basic and too easy.. not b/c I am so great at Spanish (I'm not)...but just based on the years of studying it, an intro class would probably not be the best choice.

Also, if you take the placement exam, what would you lose? If you get placed into a higher one, good. If not, just take the intro. The exam is there for you to pick the right level course..I think?

Anyway, an actual student will probably have a better answer.

Take any tests you think you need. It's good for whenever you actually want to take the class.

I took the Spanish test (and got in the 201 class after 2 years of Spanish), but then never ending up taking Spanish. However, if I did have a sudden desire to do it, I could still enroll in 201, despite that test being two years ago.

if you dont take placement tests during orientation and then decide to take something in the sciences or the languages, could you take the placements later?

okay so, no matter what you received on the AP exam/SAT II, you should take the placement test anyways?

what if youve already met the foreign language requirement based on ap/sat ii scores... is that automatically factored in to how many credits you have?
