just signed up for placement testing. and i'm required to take the language test (SAS). but do we not choose what language? i'm confused.

and why do we need to take a language test. i did not plan on taking a language at rutgers.

You choose the language the day of the test.

They give you a paper (or card) that lists the language and what room you’ll need to take the test.

If you’re not going to take a language, just go to the Spanish testing, answer one question, hand in the test, and leave. Or just leave altogether after the last math exam.

The language portion is the last test of the day.

You are taking the language test because if you test out, you are not required to take a semester of another language. Rutgers has a one semester requirement or pass the proficiency test at a basic level. (The class of 2009 was required unless the rules have changed) Usually any kid that took a language in high school does fine. Mason Gross has no language requirement so the test is not needed for those students unless they want to take a class. If you chose to take a language, the test places you into a class of your skill level.

^ really? I never knew that you would be required to take a language for a semester if you didn’t pass the exam during the placement.

There were a LOT of kids who left after the first few questions of the aural portion last year when I took the test. I don’t think a language is required as a part of the SAS general education . . . unless that’s a new policy with the incoming class

Is the Math 2 placement test mandatory for all students this year, regardless of which school they are attending? (I am attending the College of Engineering)

Yes, the Math 2 placement test is mandatory.

what’s math level 2. the pre-calc?

Wait, I enrolled in the Business School…do I still have to sign up for testing?
Because on the website it says on SAS students can sign up for now…

^^ Same question. Plus in the Scarlet Guide (the Business-specific part), it says the Dean would notify us, making it seem like we don’t have to sign up…

i’m taking the placement test tomorrow. how is the english. and what is on the precalc part of the test?

I got my student guide today. I like, the business school kids, couldn’t sign up for placement tests, but I saw in the guide that there are specific dates set aside for my testing (in the booklet in the front pocket). Perhaps the business kids have that as well?

for anyone wondering, engineering testing dates are:
A-K May 2
L-Z May 9

For the placement test for Engineering Students, we just have to do both the English and Math tests, but don’t need to sign-up? I recently enrolled to Rutgers, but haven’t received anything yet. And I know a test date is the 2nd of May, so I don’t want to miss out on the test waiting on information.

By the way my friend who is also enrolled at RBS NB emailed someone and they said that the Business students don’t need to sign up, we just show up on test day and go from there.

@fabled: I’m pretty sure you don’t need to sign up. They have specific places for people according to last names. It’s all in your red Scarlet Guide 2009 - School of Engineering First-Year Students.

Thanks. I enrolled on Tuesday (That was the day I was awarded a scholarship from my town, $12,500 a year for four years, so i quickly enrolled afterwards), so I haven’t received anything yet, which is why I’m asking. I don’t want to wait on information and miss out on the testing.

So, I just need to take the English test, then the Math II test?

Oh! Well, then I’ll just tell you the info.

Okay, so test day and rooms are based on the first letter of your last name.

May 2, 2009 (A through K)
A-E: Science and Engineering Resource Center, Room 111, Busch Campus
F-K: Hill Center, Room 114, Busch Campus

May 9, 2009 (L through Z)
L-Q: Science and Engineering Resource Center, Room 111, Busch Campus
R-Z: Hill Center, Room 114, Busch Campus

Examination times:
9am to 11am
Level I English Test (Mandatory if CR SAT Score < 600)
11am to 12noon
Level II Math Test (Mandatory for all)

Uhh, I think that should be it. (:

If you want to take a Foreign Language in RU, then you also have to take a placement test for that. but you’ll have to contact the Office of Academic Affairs. (I’m planning on figuring that out after my placement test.)

Thank you so much. Last name starts with K, so I’ll be at the Hill Center Room 114. I might get the information tomorrow or Saturday. But if it was Saturday, that certainly wouldn’t help lol. Thanks again.

No problem. I’ll see you there! ;D (last name starts with J)

also, afterwards you should take your picture for your student ID. (I think. I’m not really sure how that works.)

Haha, sounds good. I guess I’ll see you there too!

Whats it like in there? A big lecture hall with people standing over us while we take the test?

OR is it more of a classroom with a proctor in there?
