Placement tests and going into higher level classes

What kind of placement exams are there for freshmen to take? My advisor only mentioned the one for foreign language (I took 6 years of french). Some schools I know have placement exams for things like Calculus or a science.

I took classes like Calc BC and Chemistry HL (for the IB program), so being able to get into higher classes, so that I don't have to repeat everything, is kind of important to me. I emailed my advisor and she didn't really say much about it... On my "preferred courses" form where you could pick 6 to put down in lieu of the classes you are "pre-enrolled" in due to your major (I'm chemistry), I put Calc 3 and Organic Chem. Will I actually be able to take those?

My AP Chemistry score exempts me out of CHM U214, which is apparently General Chemistry. But since I'm a chemistry major, I'm pre-enrolled in CHEM U217, which is "General Chemistry for Chemistry majors" or something like that. Does that mean I can't exempt?

One final question, they keep saying to "watch out for the alerts" about the placement test for language... When are we actually going to get to take it? My orientation is A, so only two weeks away. I had to guess a french class to put down in my preferred courses list because I have no idea what level I should go into.

That gets taken care of at orientation. When you are picking classes (based on my experience), you get a sheet that says, for example, "You need to take Calc I). If you took AB Calc with a 4/5, you can take calc II. If you took BC calc with a 4/5 or a 4/5 AB subscore, you can take calc III."

I just wrote all of that before reading your whole post but it's decent info so I'm going to keep it.

Placement tests are done at orientation and I had no pre-enrolled... So I guess this is kind of a pointless post.
