Hey guys,

I was just wondering when the placement tests are at Penn? (for incoming freshmen)

I'm mainly concerned about subjects like foreign language (Spanish), Chemistry, Biology, etc

And how well, roughly(scorewise, if possible), do we have to perform on these tests to get credit for them or be exempt from taking them?

thx in advance

Your welcome in advance

placement tests are during the first week... they'll be on the NSO schedule.

in most cases (depending on your major) it's much easier to do well on AP or SATII's. dig around on the department websites to find out what they want.

you need to get 110% on the test to be exempt from taking the test.

Lol thx guys (esp. Coveney)

matt, do you know the general score range we may need to be exempt?

ps.by "them" i meant courses

Matt doesn't care about black people

even less than the president

She take my money when I'm in need
Yea she's a trifflin friend indeed

sounds like amy gutmann

now i ain't callin' her a golddigga, but she ain't messin with no broke da broke

don't place out of bio or chem- the lab requirements will force you to do things like take orgo II lab or pchem lab and bio 251 to make up the premed requirements.

is your performance on the test assigned a letter grade, or is it pass/fail? i'd rather repeat the course than squeak through with a C on my GPA.

Philly, we can just place out of Bio 91 and Chem 91, right?

then we can take Bio 121/122 right? Would this change the courseload by much?

bion 91 and chem 91 do not exist as real classes, they are designations soley for the use of ap credit or placement.

the policy used to be (not sure if it's changed) that you could use ap credit for 91 and then take 121 to fill your two semesters of general bio requirement for the bio major. This does you no good for premed requirements.

Also, unless you're an engineer or molecular bio major, I'd recommend taking 101/102 instead of 121/122, the former, particularly 102, are better classes (you can also take 121 and then 102 or or 101 and then 122 if you so choose, they all look the same for med school purposes)

Are placement tests required for foreign language courses?

If you haven't taken an SAT II or AP for a language, you DO need to take their placement test, so you can get placed into a class.
Over a certain score and I believe you can get exempt.

So say your Pre-Med and take the department placement exam... and pass. How does that look to Med schools. Does that fulfill their requirements, cause I know AP sure as hell doesn't so...

Wow, I wish someone had told me about Chem before I had registered for the test... Another 80 bucks out the window and a morning of considerable brain pain. Wonderful
