Placement tests

Have any fall 2012 admits on CC already taken the placement tests in Math, Chemistry and Physics? Does anyone have an idea about the level of these tests as compared to AP/ IB courses? Thnx

Math is an ALEKS test (google it) and does not test calculus but can test through pre-calculus so obviously it is not AP level. it is designed to make questions harder as your progress through more correct answers and then easier when you get something wrong. For placement purposes it is used mainly to determine whether you should be placed in lower than a calculus course. Also, you can take that test as many times as you want before going to orientation and your highest score will be used.

Chemistry and Physics tests are also not AP level but instead are designed to test knowledge on the assumption you had one year of the subject in high school, regular or honors level. They are not as hard as the SAT subject tests but are similar and if you study like you will be taking an SAT test, you should do fine.

Should I be studying for the chemistry and physics exams before I take then??

I believe it should be precalc material since everyone takes it

thanks drusba, really appreciate it!
agreed yodelo, good luck to you and teenieweenie for your tests

For the ALEKS math test is it worth it to purchase the learning modules after taking the math test once? I didn’t do very well on it and I would like to take it again.
