Placement Tests

Hey everyone! so i saw on the Penn State facebook page that incoming freshman have to take placement tests for math, english, and chemistry. I was just wondering if anyone could give me some info on these. Well I'm definitely taking the first level of chemistry because I haven't had chem since sophomore year and don't remember anything. Also, is the english placement test just like the writing portion of the SAT?? I also heard that they take your Writing SAT score into consideration for placement, so do they take your highest test results? For the math, I took AP calc BC last year and got a 5, so do I still have to take the placement test since I've already placed out of Math 140 and Math 141?? I don't remember a lot of math from last year, so if I do badly and am placed into a lower math class, can I still take the course I want to take? Thanks!!!

Those tests are not optional. Even if you got a 5, you have to take the math and chemistry placement test.

There is no English placement test, math and chem only. What was your writing score on the SAT ? I hope you scored more than 620.

my highest writing score was a 740. If I’m placed into a lower math class, can I choose to take a more advanced one if I feel like I’m ready? Especially since I’ve already placed out of two math classes with the AP test.

Of course !
