I've been hearing about these placement tests for UF. I'm planning on doing some type of engineering, so I'll probably have to take one if it's mandatory. Is this placement test mandatory, and should I take it? Can anyone tell me a little more about it? I looked it up and the description is pretty vague.. Someone told me that if you don't take it, you will be put in the lowest level class.

The one on ISIS? Yes, when they sent you information on Preview to you and your parents via email it states the importance of taking these tests.

I just took the placement tests this week and they’re really not that bad. The chem test has 27 questions - 10 math and 17 chem. If you score well you can place out of intro to chem (chm 1025) and start off with chem 1 (chem 2045). I’m not even very good at chemistry, ( I took high school honors chem 2 years ago) and I placed out of intro to chem.
The other tests is math and you can expect to spend up to 2 hours on it. It’s 35 questions and it isn’t very difficult either. As long as you score at least a 75% you can take Analytic Geometry and Calculus 1. If you score lower, you have to take Survey of Calc 1 and if you get below a 50% you have to take precal or something. I got an 84% on the placement test and I’ve taken high school precal, college algebra, and college trig.

Can you take these tests more than once?

You can take the math one as many times as you want…the chemistry test you can only take it once

The tests are a lot easier than the classes they place you into. You should listen to the results and take the lower classes if you can’t pass.

Does anyone think IB students need to take placement tests?

Yes, I think IB students need to take the placement tests.
