Do you have to register for placement tests when you register for summer orientation or can you register for the tests at a later time like during the actual orientation? If I don't register now, then will I be able to take the SAT Math Level 1 Subject Test during orientation? Also, is the SAT Math Subject Test required for the pre-pharmacy curriculum if I received a score of 4 on AP Calculus AB exam? This is what it says on the site: The prerequisite for CH 301 at UT-Austin is M 305G with a grade of at least C or a score greater than or equal to 560 on the SAT II: Mathematics Level I test . Your math ability will determine if you should begin with M 301 or M 305G and possibly CH 304K prior to CH 301.

i don’t know about SAT Math and pre-pharmacy, but you have to register for the placement tests when you register for summer orientation.

You can take them before hand (during the summer)

What tests do I have to take if I’m going to be a Chem major? I know about the Chemistry Placement Test but do you have to take it if you get a good score on the AP exam? I’ve already taken the SAT Math II, but are there other tests I need to take?

So is the SAT II Math Level 1 Subject Test required for Chem majors? Also, is the SAT Chemistry Subject Test required?

Anyone know the answer or have any information to add? Appreciate the help.

I think UT requires a foreign language to graduate. My d took 3 years of Spanish in HS, but didn’t take an AP exam on it. Does anyone know if she will have to sign up for a Spanish test this summer, or is the fact that she took 3 years in HS enough to satisfy what they require? The site is really confusing.

I’ve been told that all you need is 3 years of foreign language (no matter AP or not) in high school or at UT to graduate so she should be fine.

Language requirements vary by which college you are in within UT.

I think I read somewhere that for the College of Natural Sciences, the Math Placement exam (SAT II Math Level I) test is required by EVERYONE. Can anyone confirm this? I don’t want to waste money and take it for no reason. Also, would I be able to take the basic science classes without taking the placement exam if I scored a 4 on AP Calculus AB? I don’t see why they can’t accept the AP scores because I mean if a person can score a 4 or 5 on AP Calculus AB then they can surely score about a 560 on the SAT II Math Level I which the score UT requires for credit in M305G. A score of 3-5 on AP Calculus AB gives credit for M408C which is no doubt a harder class than M305G.

I also want to know if I have to take the SAT II Math Level I test for a chemistry major. I scored a 4 on AP Calculus but I didn’t send the scores to UT because last year I didn’t know if I was going to UT for sure. I don’t know if I should sign up for the SAT II Math Level I or not. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

You can sign up for placement tests at orientation. On your first day of orientation you go to thsi little room and some advisors will look at your transcript and make sure you are taking the placement tests that you need to take. If you signed up for one you dont need you dont have to take it, vise versa. IT WILL BE OKAY GUYS, DONT FREAK OUT!

So if I don’t register for a placement test right now, then if it is required for my major then I will be allowed to take it during orientation without any late fee? Also, if I register for a placement test right now then there is a nonrefundable fee of $15 so it would be best to only register if you know for sure that you are going to need to take the placement test.

Anyone know about the Government placement test? I heard you have to take a Texas Government test along with AP U.S. govt…

Are we supposed to study TX government on our own or what?

bulletman - right - you can register during orientation - you can wait til you are at orientation and see what your orientation advisor tells you to do.

I Hope UT - right - Gov 310 at UT includes U.S. govt and Texas govt. You can use a 3 4 or 5 on the AP Gov test to get credit for Gov 310 only if you take and pass their special “Texas gov test” which you are supposed to study on your own for. It is not really hard but you have to know something about Texas govt. They don’t tell you in advance how well you need to do on it in order to get the Gov 310 credit but we think that if you scored a 3 on the your AP Gov test you need to do pretty well on the special Texas gov test but that if you scored a 4 or 5 you can get more wrong on the special Texas gov test and still get the credit.

My oos daughter had a 4 on AP Gov and studied Texas gov from web sites and a paperback book on Texas gov, and she did score well enough to get credit. We have no idea if she easily got credit or she just barely got credit - all you are notified of is whether or not you passed the test well enough to be able to claim credit for Texas gov.

If you search back over the last few years in this forum, there will be a few suggestions on things to study for the test. I remember people said the judicial system in Texas is more complicated than in most states and you have to know about it. If you are in state, you have probably had this Texas gov stuff in middle school, but out of staters definitely need to do independent study to pass the test, claim the credit, get out of Gov 310, and move directly to Gov 312.
