Does anybody know anything about the Placement Tests mentioned on the KnightSource website?
Has anyone taken them already?
If I'm going to be in the Burnett Honors College and am in Calculus 2 right now, do I still need to take the math placement test? And if I for some odd reason do badly, will it mess up my chances for taking high-level math classes right away at UCF?
any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

This is a question I’ve been trying to find an answer to as well. I’m assuming that if you have a passing grade, or passing AP/IB score for a higher level math class that they’ll accept the credit and you won’t need to take those placement tests.

I’m going into the Honors College next fall too, and seeing as how I’m majoring in Electrical Engineering I’m guessing that since that major requires specific chemistry/math classes I won’t need to take those.

My son did the chemistry placement exam and it was pretty straight forward. Unforunately the Match placement exam is not letting him in and all the contact emails are going unanswered. So he will have to go into the unversity to take the exam.

It is my understanding that the placement exam is a required step and if its not completed prior to orientation you will be required to do the test during the second day of orientation.

My daughter did the chem and math placement tests last year. The chem went smoothly but the math somehow she had to go back in another time and redo it. I don’t know if being in Burnett changes your entry/testing requirements. You should call the advisors for Burnett and ask this since it is much advised to take the test at home than under pressure during orientation. My daughter had completed honors calculus in high school and was placed into College Trig. based on the math exam (she was skipped over college algebra only). She had no trouble with College Trig in Fall semester. For chemistry, she was allowed to take chem 2045C which means she did well on the placement test. If you don’t do well on the chem test then they put you in a two semester sequence for chm 2045. My daughter is struggling in chemistry at UCF. A top chem student in high school, she now has a weekly chem tutor at UCF and is hoping to pass with a C this semester. The chem professors do not make this difficult subject any easier too. :(

Seiclan,
That scares me :(

If your major requires any advanced math classes, you need to take the Math placement test. Sames goes for chemistry.

I know about the placement exams… but I’m more scared about the chem. I was going to do Forensic Science but decided to switch to Medical Lab. Science because Forensics requires both physics & calc. Though I am doing AP Calc next year (as a senior). MLS is just lots of chem & bio classes. I’ll be taking AP Chem next year too, so hopefully that’ll help. I consider myself to be pretty good at Chem now, but what Seiclan said about her daughter struggling makes me nervous.

is this the link to the Math placement exam?
[Start Math Placement](http://mathplacement.sdes.ucf.edu/default.asp?browsercheck=true)

Is D missing anything else? Does she need to take the chemistry placement exam?
[Start Chemistry Placement](http://chemplacement.sdes.ucf.edu/)

Yes, that is the Math Placement Exam.

What is your daughter’s intended major?

Jerseyshoremom- yes, that is the link for the math placement exam. Advise your daughter to TAKE HER TIME. My daughter took it in less than an hour and was advised to take some remedial math class! She retook it, spent about three hours on it, and was placed into MAC 1114, college trigonometry (which she took last semester and got a B).

Thank you. knightforum she is majoring in Event Management http://www.catalog.sdes.ucf.edu/degree_programs/event_management.pdf

Then she does not need chemistry so there is no need for her to take the Chem placement test. Have your daughter take 2 easier science classes to fulfill her science gen ed.

Yes, as seiclan stated she can take any science classes that she wants.

As you can see from the Event Management link, under the Science Foundation section (E), there is nothing there, which means there are no requirements beyond the 6 credit hours.

However, under the Math Foundation section (C) she will need to take MAC 1105, CGS 2100C and STA 2023. She does not need Pre-Calculus or Calculus, but she can take one of those in place of College Algebra (MAC 1005.) If she does not plan to change her major to one that requires more math College Algebra would be an easy ‘A’ compared to Calculus. However, it is up to her.

And continuing down the list for the Social Foundations section (D), she will need either Macro or Microeconomics, but if she is in AP right now and passes the exam she won’t have to take it at UCF.

I think you get the idea now.

Ok, so i just took the math placement exam. Is Calculus 1 the highest it recommends? I was hoping to be placed in calc 2 first semester, as that is what i have been taking my senior year of hs. Think they’ll let me do it?

Unless you pass the AP exam or CLEP with an acceptable score, you won’t be placed in Calc2.

Are you given just one try on the Math Placement Exam?

My daughter did it twice last May. The first time she rushed through it and was “placed” in some remedial math class! She retook it, taking her time and was then placed into College Trigonometry!

Coventry_Girl: I was recommended by a professor at UCF to not take the credit for Calc 1, even if you pass the AP exam. Your HS class may not cover what your UCF professor will for Calc 1 and could be screwed in the 2nd semester.

good to know, dance2nite, thanks.
it’s always nice to have first-hand references :)

Hi everyone! Im really excited to go to UCF in August. I was just wondering if anyone had taken the chemistry exam yet? I haven’t taken it yet, I’m a little nervous lol. I’m pretty good at chemistry, but I’m not taking chem this year, so I don’t know how hard its going to be.
