Hey; I'm going to be a CIT student in the fall and I wanted to know about the placement tests offered. All I've been able to find are the tests for Calculus and English. I'm an International and I have no AP's whatsoever.I don't want to begin with only basic classes so could someone please tell me what placement tests are offered and when?

The only placement test I know of is the one they send you in the mail for math.

Popking,

What country are you from ? If you took A-Level Maths/Further Maths or Math HL for the IB diploma, I believe you should be able to place out of 21-120 and 21-122 depending on your performance in the Calc placement test. You need to check that information with your college though.

english is only to check that you have the capability of writing 3 mindless essays in interp (76-101). You can no longer skip that.

If you “fail” the english test for international students whose primary language is not english, then you take 76-100, which doesn’t count toward anything as far as i know. So i suggest that you pass the english placement test.

ps - just a side tip, I’ve heard that there’s a way to bypass the english placement test, which is to just not take it at all. But I hope you are confident in your english before you **** off the english department (and KL)

Larsen can suck a big one since he told me Business for Engineers wouldn’t qualify as a non-technical elective. All because you have to do a spreadsheet at one point.

Is there a chemistry placement test? I had two years of AP/IB Chemistry, but I wound up signing up for only the IB Chemistry SL test, thinking it would be redundant to take the AP test as well. Now that I know that CMU “generally” does not accept SL (thanks a lot – we’re only allowed to take 4 HL tests), I’m really wishing I had signed up for AP, and am very much not looking forward to having to take one of the other lab classes.

You might want to try asking CMU if they’ll accept AP credit you take while in college. You’d have to do it next spring, but it might be worth it if it’ll get you out of a year of classes.
