I lot of people at school have found out that they have to do their online placement tests by June 1st or something... how does NEU do it? I haven't gotten any e-mails from them about it or anything. I know that I'm probably supposed to be taking a Spanish Placement Test. Does anyone know when I'll receive instructions about this? I'm assuming I'll have to do it before I go to registration in a month, right?

Also, will I pre-register for classes or anything before orientation?

Any help is immensely appreciated!

I did my math one at orientation. Pretty sure they are done the first day at orientation, they grade them over night and give you your results the next day so you can pick classes accordingly.

^That would make sense. Thanks for the response!
In my search, I did find some online Spanish PT, but I wasn’t sure who it was meant for and whatnot.

They sent out emails for pre-orientation. I filled it out and they ask you to pick elective courses and they have a language placement test. It’s due June 5th so you might want to find out why you haven’t received it yet.

They said that all other placement tests are done at orientation. I think you can choose to do the language one at orientation too but you definitely have to pick the electives before.

Grrr, that’s aggravating! I’ve been receiving e-mails all along, why’d they stop now?? I’ve even checked my neu email account.

I do appreciate the heads up though!!

What major are you in punknmetal101? I’m wondering if that might have something to do with it?

I’m majoring in Finance, and that could have something to do with it. It may have to do with which orientation session you’re going to also.

Well I’m going to the June orientation, so I should probably have gotten the e-mail. But I am undeclared… I think I’ll call NEU this week. Thanks for all the input!

so other than the foreign language placement test, will we only have to take the a math placement test or will there be others?

and what kind of math??

I never took any placement tests during orientation.

collegebound: when my mom was talking to NEU, they told her that they just go by transcript for math placement (so whatever math you have completed, they just put you to the next logical level or whatever). Not sure if that is 100% accurate though.

I entered in fall of 06 and I think we were the last class to take the math placement exam. On a sidenote the best “choice” for a math class if you are doing Arts and Science is Calc for business/econ majors. It is by far the easiest calc out of the calc classes, without have a lesser math on your transcript

It’s pretty much Calc for Business, Calc for Bio, and then Calc for engineers. I don’t think I’m missing any, but I might have. Calc 3 only has Calc 3 for Science/Engineers. If you really are a total math phob, they have a class called MathThink that I heard is really easy.

I just did my spanish placement test online. You have up until 2 weeks before orientation to finish the pre-registration i think

^Yeah, I ended up taking that. I have been having such issues with pre-registration… still haven’t submitted it and I’m going to June orientation. Northeastern seems to have been understanding thus far. I don’t quite understand why I got the e-mail informing me of having to do this 2 weeks to the day before orientation… the deadline. So I’ve been quite frustrated lately.

I scored a 929 on the Spanish placement… 410 qualifies for LNS 501 or something… so is it okay for me to take an advanced Spanish class as a frosh? I wasn’t trying to test out or anything… I really want to take at least another semester of Spanish before I start learning other languages.
