I heard some people talking about placement tests. What’s the deal with those?

Basically, for Cal States, each freshman have to take placement exams for english and math. However, CA students could get exempted by taking exams during their STAR Exams their junior year.

Yeah, just look around that website and you should be able to find the information you need.

Thankfully, I passed my EPT and ELM during STAR exam. =)

i remember taking those tests, i just dont know what my scores were

You can also be exempt if your SAT scores are good enough or if you have a good AP score on some exams.

would i have to officially send the scores? for example i got a 5 on the calc ab test, would i send that?

This is from the Cal Poly catalog regarding placement tests:
http://www.catalog.calpoly.edu/2009pubcat/acadplacemt.pdf

Yeah, there’s a form you have to fill out, for both the EMT and EPT; you will have to send in the official scores as well. I sent in both of my forms and they processed them quickly, it’s really easy.

where are the official scores? and do i take the tests on canpus?

You should get a pamphlet when you take your AP tests, and you can mark the colleges you want to send scores to. If you’ve already taken the test, you may have to order scores over the phone.

no, i meant the EMT and EPT. where do i find my scores for those? i never heard anything from them

Ohh, I’m sorry. Yes, you take those tests at cal poly. If you’ve already taken them, I can’t tell you where to find scores-I just used my SAT scores to fulfill the requirements.

how can i tell if my sat/act scores met the requirements?

ELM: 550 or above on the math SAT Exam (any I or II exam)
23 or above on Math ACT Exam

EPT: 550 or above on SAT I Reasoning Exam
680 or above on SAT II Writing Exam
24 or above on ACT English Exam

here’s a link to an exemption form that has to be completed: [English Placement Test - Writing Skills - Cal Poly](http://writingskills.calpoly.edu/ept/#exempt)

cool. thanks for the help
