Places giving little or NO MERIT AID

Here they are folks. The places that give predominently NEED BASED aid only. Some may have changed thier policy, if so advise. If you need MERIT money to swing the cost of any of these places... don't waste your time. Also feel free to add any school not listed that does not give merit aid. I just found out about Tufts only yesterday. Some listed here might give merit aid in name only, (2 or 3 scholarships), basically in such small amounts it is not worth the effort to apply. This list was part of a package I found on the internet and apparently is given out to high school seniors by the guidence departments at several public and private high schools nationwide.

"Nominal" refers to the overall amount given on average per student. But, as has been pointed out, a FEW OUTSTANDING students may recieve very large amounts of aid at these institutions. Again, this is a work in progress and I'm learning more each day. Several places have been removed, others added and some moved from one list to another.

Trinity (CT) just started giving merit $$ this past year. There's a recent thread on CC about it:

Thank you CC. I'm sure some folks are interested. Thanks for the input jrpar.

Thanks for the input jrpar. Folks, show this list to your S or D's advisor or GC and ask them to legitimize it. I think you'll find it is more or less accurate. And remember, even those uber-elite schools who don't give out large dollar amounts of merit on average, may in fact give large amounts to select, highly qualified, applicants. Lastly many schools on this list, although not giving huge merit, do meet much of an applicant's "need"... often more so than less known privates and/or publics.
