Places to eat

This will be the most worthless post in this thread, but...

there's this really fancy Indian place that's like... really off of state? I think it is? All I know is that it's near Mongolian BBQ and a Chase Bank. REALLY good, REALLY expensive.

^^Near BD's on Main? Shalimar? Yes, very good. Other suggestions for not-so-cheap...some favorite ethnic spots: Pacific Rim @ W. Liberty/Main, Blue Nile @ Washington/5th, Raja Rani @ S. Division/E. William.

Oh yeah, I've been to Shalimar and a couple other Indian places on campus...no idea what to order, but yummy.

Yes! Shalimar!

Such a great place. I'm totally swiping my dad's CC to go there during orientation.

I always get mixed reviews for Indians restaurants (from the many Indians I know). Some love Madras Masala. Others hate it. The same can be said for Shalimar and Raja Rani (sp?). I've only been to Madras Masala, and I thought it was quite good. I think I like Indian food in general. But when I ask Indians what they think the best Indian restaurant is, I never get consistent answers.

Indian restaurants in Ann Arbor?! YESSSSSSSSS!! You guys made my day.

There's also an Indian vendor, Curry Express, on South University, but it's not always there.

Actually Christine, technically he's on East U. : )

I don't think that guy is there past 2 p.m.

theres this place on state street by jimmy johns. its like a 7/11.

16 inch cheese for $5.50
1 slice for $1.25

Cheapest pizza on campus. GG

nah backroom = $1 slice

shalimar is delicious, but you better not be goin anywhere after you eat because you're going to smell like indian food like no other.

Ann Arbor isn't that great for high class restaurant though. Chop house, pacific rim and real seafood are decent, but pretty mediocre for the money.

Totoro has decent sushi and bdubs is great on tuesdays (35 cent wings.)

Sushi.come
BTB
Back Room Pizza
All under 5 bucks

Cheapest, and maybe best by far is hitting up Meijer and making your own lunch as they have the largest selection in a supermarket and are dirt cheap.

Re: the party store by Jimmy Johns on State. You're talking about the Diag party store, I think, which I mentioned earlier. And I do love their pizza--makes for a very cheap lunch. The guy who owns it (Jerome) is a pretty nice guy.

Chop house is so overrated... especially b/c the bill came to $500 for four people and my steak was way overcooked.

If you haven't already, there's stuff at the back of the planner that we got at Orientation for food. That thing is handy...

Yeah, I was just reading it yesterday (can't believe you got around to it already :-p). It reminded me of little off the wall places I used to go to eat. Seems like a handy little book.

There is also a Chipotle on Washtenaw about 10 minutes from campus (by car) now. I had my car up here the last week and a half of school so I made a couple runs there and to Taco Bell. Having a car on campus is pretty awesome. Too bad I already committed to leaving it home a few months ago. But it does save some paper to leave it home.

The Thai place in/near Kerrytown is Siam and it's pretty good.

Also, Seva for vegetarians is good though pricey
