I’m becoming a freshman soon for the Fall 2016/Spring 2017 term and I am looking for a place to live somewhere off campus. Because I’m signing up so late (due to extraneous reasons) I’m afraid that I’ll be sentenced to the miserable dorms on campus. Anyways, from what I’ve heard, the general area near FSU isn’t the safest place so it’d be nice to know which ones should be stayed away from. It would also be preferable for the place to be 10 minutes away at the most, by car. Housing deadline is at May 1st so I’d like to know as soon as possible. Thanks in advance!
Depending on what you consider “the general area near FSU” then sure, that statement can either be true or complete bunk.
I do not recommend that you live in Seminole Grand. The areas of town on the immediate north side of campus (Frenchtown) are not great ideas either.
If you are looking for a “student housing” provider vs say just a general apartment complex, there’s no end to some of the companies. Jackson Properties has a bunch of different student housing options. And you can’t go anywhere near FSU without finding a Student Housing Solutions owned property.
If you are looking for something close to campus, there’s a bunch of properties on the west side of campus along Call Street. Colony Club, The Luxe (pricey, just a heads up), and a few others.
If you are looking for more of a dorm style place, Southgate tends to be the most popular.
Thanks! I’ll definitely look into it.
Have you looked at the commercially run residence halls (Osceola Apartments, West 10, Heritage Grove, etc)? I know HG accepts Florida Pre-pay housing funds.
Try South Magnolia or Tennessee Street area. It’s near campus and close to the main areas in town. I don’t recommend South Gate by everyone I knew who lived there didn’t think it was worth it.
